Lots of White Smoke from exhaust...

It's a shame she's in really good nick otherwise. It has to be too good to be true I didn't want an auto anyway I can't stop myself asking... Would it likely really be that expensive?

Lots of White Smoke from exhaust...

I took an auto '04 D2 TD5 for a test drive. Now, I'm not auto expert but... It was a bit sluggish when pulling away - even booting it didn't give me anything like the power I get in first in my manual one. Whilst driving she seemed reluctant to kick down and then would not accelerate as...

Before I buy a new bearing assembly - some diagnosis please...

Thanks for all the input - I thought it was likely to be the main cause. I've put my bid in for a torque wrench I know! I know! I don't really need it but Dr_Evil made me do it! :) Next step is actually ordering the hub assembly itself The local dealer wants £304.51 and a well known...

Before I buy a new bearing assembly - some diagnosis please...

My D2 has a mild grinding noise from the front right. At about 30mph/1500 revs the noise is about 4 beats per second and gets louder when I turn to the right At higher speeds - say 70 going down a hill - she is louder on _left_ turns and almost quiet on right ones (!!) I jacked her up and...

Is this a serious torque wrench...

The nice technical man at Sealey has promised to call me back with the answers :)

Is this a serious torque wrench...

Thanks MadHatMan - all good advice - but.... The cheap torque multipliers look like nut removal tools - they don't seem to be able to define the torque multiplication or have a preset multiple :( (a 'times 2' would be good for me as I have a 70-395Nm wrench) The other torque multipliers...

Is this a serious torque wrench...

Soon I will be changing the OFS wheel bearing on my D2 - I hope the "3 amigos" are due to the bearing failing. I've read Urbanpanzer's writeup on this which highlights the need for a Torque wrench capable of 490 Nm. www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Wheel Hub / Bearing Assy Torque wrenches aren't...

    Rear diff 3 litres???

Is it possible that the axle seals have been worn/removed and I have just filled the entire axle (and am now lubricating the hub bearings too) ?

    Rear diff 3 litres???

Weird. Shame there's nothing special about it. Next time I drain/refill I'll measure it again and if I only get 2l in I'll definitely tell you all  Thanks all

    Rear diff 3 litres???

Wahey! The long awaited pictures of my 3l diff (also sporting its shiny brass filler plug)

    Rear diff 3 litres???

This is kinda why I was surprised. I had the car level and did both diffs without moving the car in any way. Still, photos will be taken today and posted later. Cheers

    Rear diff 3 litres???

Whilst I'm under there are there any points on the axle/diff I should be looking for other markings?

    Rear diff 3 litres???

sounds like a fair request - I'll try and do that tomorrow

    Rear diff 3 litres???

I can't see any other markings on the diffs Do these markings explain why I managed to get 3l of oil in the rear diff?

    Leak identification...

The fuel pressure regulator leak I have is now undeniable. I suspect this is spewing so much fuel now it'll start covering the PAS filler! :) I'll get that sorted, pressure wash her and see what still leaks. Cheers

Intermittent ACE leak - diagnosis/advice needed...

no obvious leaks from pipes - but still leaking ace fluid. There looks like an ACE leak from the underside of the ACE block - so I'm wondering if the filter is clagged/leaking - is this possible? The front ram seems dry - not seen any other leaks anywhere else - mind, the huge fuel...

    Rear diff 3 litres???

Rear diff details seem to be: HRC-1124 ROVER "24 10" "BG 00" Front diff: HRC-1124 ROVER "27 10" "BF 00" "2-4" "420-12" Does this mean much?

Tool set for getting transfer box filler out...

Yeah - but here's the rub... When they did not fit last time, I bought some new ones. This week they did not fit - but the old ones did!! Last time the darned thing just would not fit and nor would my wobble bar This week the non-wobble one just clicked straight in! If it wasn't for the...

    Rear diff 3 litres???

The last oil was in there for at least 5 years  so not too pricey in the end :) There is no obvious 'addition' - welded on or not. I was wondering if it was likely I had a defender or Salisbury rear axle. Though I don't ever remember being told I was buying anything special. I presume it...
