Fit the bracket in the hole first then put the stereo in, you appear to have the stereo in the bracket and trying to push both in.

Check the bonnet switch? Open the bonnet, hold the switch down then see what happens? I don't know for sure just methodical testing.

If you don't weld buy a HD fork they're not expensive and change that too because it will be a massive pain in the hole to do all that work just for the fork to bust on you when you don't expect it.
