    2 wheel drive

I took my rear prop assembly off to eliminate it whilst searching for the source of my vibration. The car drove soo much better for being 2wd I left it off! I live in the sarf east so rarely get snow or icy conditions, but if we did I'm half hour and 12 bolts away from being 4wd again! Its a...

Anti tamper bolts on the MAF sensor??

I presume they have a hold drilled in the torx bit then? Are these anti tampers torxs fairly common then? I've been working on cars and bikes for years and i've never come across these before?

Anti tamper bolts on the MAF sensor??

I went to take my MAF sensor out today but the torx bolt things have a little pin in the middle of the recess to stop you putting the torx socket thing in. I've never come across these before! Are they some sort of cunning anti tamper bolt? How the hell do you get them out????

Is the Freelander parts manual online anywhere?

Thanks for the offer anyway. I hope to get the car up on stands and have a look at just about anything for cleaarance, rattle breakages etc. I'm thinking its a mount but who knows? I cant even work out how to get the undertray off yet, so I dont think my chances are that good for fixing it!:o :D

Is the Freelander parts manual online anywhere? I think I have the RAVE cd somewhere if not, is it on there per chance?

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Yup, its the older 2.0L diesel. I'll have a good look at all the mounts etc. Cheers for the advice. :)

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Hi mate. Thanks for the feedback on this. Is this the large mount on the RHS you mention?

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

After reading the thread I don't think its a drop link either. I'm wondering if it is something like a mount, as yes the car does have some vibration when revving when stationary but is much worse when driven? So i'm guessing the engines torque is pulling a mount apart or something?

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Thanks, I'll go and have a read up now.:)

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Yup. They said its there but it needs to be laboured to make it do it and I should use more revs with the car. I think was more of a sort of drive around it type advice until what ever it is become more apparent. They're a good garage with good knowledge and a very good reputation. I...

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Well it cost £45 + vat, but that was just for an hours diagnostics. Basically they checked it all over and found nothing. They said its not falling in half or anything and with nothing obvious showing up, what did I want them to do? As he said its going to get expensive to start replacing items...

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

None so far, but I think mine may be the mechanical failure only model.:)

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

I've given up trying to find the source of my vibration on my Freelander and have booked it into a local 4x4 place. Will it be something trivial like a loose engine mounting? Or maybe a driveshaft? Maybe a gear box? Maybe an IRD? Maybe all of the above! How much do you reckon the bill...

Another vote for the Osram Silverstars. A 50% brighter claim which is probably true. It's certainly noticable.:)

How to check an inner CV joint?

Front (currently rear prop free and in 2wd mode). The movement is when lying under the car pushing to the front and pulling to the rear at an angle. So a bit up and down and a bit fore and aft, if you see what I mean. :o You can see the shaft and cup has slight play in it whne you push/pull it.

How to check an inner CV joint?

Of course. Is there another type that doesn't then? ;) :D

    Idler bearing noise?

Hi All My 2000 Freelander 2.0l has a distinct "whirr" noise if you rev it and let the revs drop. I'm pretty sure it’s not the alternator bearing. Is there an idler roller that could have a noisy bearing, as it seems to be coming from that side of things? If there is an idler roller there is it...

How to check an inner CV joint?

I seem to have some movement in both shafts when I move them. Could this be the source of the vibration my car suffers from? It vibrates badly between 15-2000rpk. The more load you put on it the less the vibration?

Answering my own questions I know, but for the benefit of the archives it was a track rod end.:)
