i've an apparently bored to the max 2 1/4, running a weber and no head gasket (just gasket glue), it always had a good bit of go about it compaired to my other petrol landy (but then that could also be down to many other factors i suppose) also, before its electrical system failed in every way...

i believe a conversion to a 5 speed box is very involved and opens multipul cans of worms. there are a few very detailed threads on here about it.
