    bit of advice please

I think if you want a 300 tdi rather than a td5 for instance, you would pay good money for a well kept late tdi, obviously a well specced one. I bought a p reg 6 cylinder xjr for more than the prie of a v8 on a later plate because they are more reliable and easier to work on. Obviously condition...

    bit of advice please

I paid 1000 for a p reg 300tdi in June,High mileage but well lokked after, full mot and service etc. I've seen quite a few around the 1500 mark, and some really tidy ones aoround 2k. I suppose it depends on how quick you want to sell it.

    Mpg ????

I've just done a 200 mile trip on 30 quid with a bit to spare, not sure on the maths but it seems good for a 300 tdi!

    300tdi steering

Does the car wonder at all when you are driving on a straight road? The main problems with the steering box is wear, this causes play and on a disco it tends to wonder about on the road. Stiff or heavy steering is usually the pump/belt or seized track rod end etc.

    300 tdi immobiliser prob

The item behind the heater control is the spider, this is part of the immobiliser. I had a problem with mine and it turned out to be dry joints. I got a specialist to re-solder the spider and it's been fine. The problem is with these spiders is they are very secure. Landrover do a kit so you can...

    Tdi orTd5

I wouldn't want to do too much myself on a td5, and i consider myself quite competent with the tools. It is far more complex than a 220/300 tdi.

    Lost keys/fob discovery 1

You really need the remote fob. I'm sure there is a way to reprogramme those key fobs using the key and a spare fob (as if the battery in the fob has been replaced), it's a series of turns in the door using the key etc. It should be in the owners manual.

    Tdi orTd5

I had a 51 plate td5 es, a great car! Had problems with rear air suspension and a leaking cam cover, all done under warranty. In the end though i sold it and got a 96 300tdi. As others have said, it's a bit rougher than a td5 but i can do all the work myself. If you can afford a late td5, and...

    A positive thread!

96 300 tdi, 201,000 on the clock and it runs like a dream, in the last 4000 i've done a oil and filter change and cleaned the intercooler out! Brilliant car!!!

    Lost keys/fob discovery 1

I have a 96 300tdi, i assume your disco has a similar layout to mine (fob with 2 buttons?) if you have an aftermarket one also, you an probably have that sorted. The factory one is a different ball game though! If it's like mine, it has a spider behind the dash, if you have this bypassed you...

Keep our 300tdi or swap for earlier td5

I got rid of my 51 plate ES and bought a 96 300tdi! Need i say more?

I think my Disco is about to die... :(

I have a disco 300tdi on a 96. 201k on the clock. I had a similar issue,so i did the egr blank job, that made a difference, then i took the intercooler off (very easy to do), cleaned it out with petrol, loads of crap came out. Made a huge difference and it goes really well again.

    Fuel pipes

I saw a thing on a website, where they replaced the floor using a industrial bonding agent, used to fit wings, supposed to be as strong as welding (if the manufacturers use it, must be good). Also read in difflock that someone rivited it into place. That would save alot of hassle.

    Door opening woes

It's not too bad a job, but it is really fiddly. You need to take out the latch, so it's a case of remembering where everything goes. The front door is a pain, you have to remove the window frame, wing mirror etc.

    Swivel Housing seal

If you don't fancy doing the seals yet, paddocks do the grease, it's less than a tenner for both sides. Just drain the old oil and replace with the grease.

    Door opening woes

I got a full set off ebay for about 15 quid, i'm sure you could get them off a metro or maestro etc, but they might be on Knackered as well. Fitting them is a pain in the arse, but well worth it.

    2003 TD5 replacement radio/head unit

If you are happy with your head unit, but you want to use it with an ipod, why not get an fm receiver, just plug it into for fag lighter, tune it into a spare channel and away you go. Plug you ipod into the receiver and it will play through you system. Buy a good quality one and they do a great job.

    discovery 2

I agree with Lister there. As good as those V8s are, they do need to be maintained well. Overheating is a big issue with these engines (and it's not just rover V8s). I always did oil changes before it was needed, and kept an eye on the coolant. I bought my rangie with 89,000 on it and put 35,000...

    discovery 2

I had a classic range rover 3.9, very reliable car, but couldn't live with the fuel bills at the time, so i sold it and bought a disco td5. It was strange at first, as the range rover was a lot smoother, being a v8 auto. The only real problem i had with the disco was the air suspension (done...

    discovery 2

It's a shame you have to get rid of the range rover, can't it be sorted. Sometimes the overheating can be something simple. Have you had it looked at? If you decide to buy a disco2, get a one on the latest plate possible, make sure it has a full service history and get it checked over by someone...
