I've just calculated my mpg on my 98' 300 tdi . I managed 156 miles on £25 which I get too about 30 mpg . I have removed the egr and cleaned the inlet manifold + intercooler . I dont drive it hard but do sometimes give it beans now and again just to keep the pipe's clean;). My wife drive's it now and again too , so she's useless at economical driving . I was only expecting about 25 mpg ish as a friends Toyota Landcruiser does about 20/22 mpg at best .... quite chuffed now :D

You should be able to get 35 ish really from a 300 tdi, my auto returns that easily and 25 towing a caravan. They are great vehicles. What sort of mileage has yours done and is it a manual ?. removing the EGR certainly improves performance but you need to also clean out the intercooler for best effect.

I've just done a 200 mile trip on 30 quid with a bit to spare, not sure on the maths but it seems good for a 300 tdi!

im getting 130 miles from 20 quid around town in a manual 300 tdi with 97000 on clock, tweaked pump and no egr valve.
