Series 2 one don't tend to rust like the tdi, but if your's is sorted i would keep it. I have a tdi and wouldn't swap it for td5.

Go for the newer model. Land rover sorted a lot of the niggles out by then, but still do all the checks. If it's a high spec ES you need to make sure the toys all work, and only buy one with a full service history at these prices. I would also expect a 3-6 month warranty with the later model.

If you get the springs off ebay, the seller normally sells those clips, get a bag of em, there cheap enough. Just take it easy, don't forget the bolts for the handle and the trim around the lever (there's a little screw behind the lever).
