iv just had a long walk

Hi Slob, wondered when it would be my turn :D Now I'm no expert but my basic knowledge tells me that a petrol engine uses a spark to ignite the fuel in the cylinder thus using elastictrickery. Diesels rely on heat generated from compression (or glowplugs to start with) to ignite fuel. So, to...

Sedimental thing is the one near the tank. Fuel filter is dead easy but you need to bleed the system when you've changed it. There's a little pump thingy on the drivers side of the engine to do it. Do you have a haynes manual?

Diesels don't use electric to run like petrols do

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. When did you last change the filters? Clean the sedimentor? Any sign of leaks in the pipes? could be air in the system?

    trouble when starting sometimes.....?

Please do the search first before trying WD40. The threads on here are 60/40 don't use WD as all it does is add a bit of lube but then holds all the filings Riggy talks about jamming up the barrel more. Not knocking anyone or how they've fixed things in the past but ask a locksmith about...

    trouble when starting sometimes.....?

Hi, There are a few threads on here that deal with this problem, try doing a search. Mine was the same until eventually, I was left stranded in a carpark and had to resort to a hammer and chisel to move the car again. It could be a couple of things. 1 - the steering lock could be...

    Indicators wont turn off

I have a similar issue with my 300TDi. Sometimes the indicators turn off, mostly they dont. I pulled the horn out in one go (prise the hard plastic bit up, then carefully insert a srewdriver under the side of it to pop the hole lot). If you leave the battery connected, it's best to insulate...

Personally, I think you should be applauded for giving up the info that you're only a scroat. Well done lad

From my experience with viscous fans, they are supposed to get stiffer to turn the hotter they get. You shouldn't be able to spin it very much once you turn off the hot engine. Do not try to see how hard it is to turn with the engine running. When you say high revs, was this high revs but low...

    Alternator swap

As long as the keyway on the shaft is the same, it should swap over. Best way I've found to remove pulleys is to wrap an old belt around them and clamp that in a vice as tight as possible. Should be able to get the nut off then if you use a good socket and a long bar.

    It should last 10 years!!

The difference when the amp is working is really worth the small amount of time to fit the plug

    It should last 10 years!!

Lazy bugger! ;) Here's the number 170144276033. Personally, I butchered an RCA plug with two spade connectors and plugged those directly into the LR multiplug. I'd load a piccie up but don't have one and can't be arsed pulling the stereo out. If you're really struggling, I may be...

    An Alarming Un-Sound..

Did the alarm sound before? My 300TDi doesn't sound the horn but a seperate alarm. The alarm siren can be turned off.

    It should last 10 years!!

Don't know if it's the same as a 300TDi but there's a plug you can by on ebay to loop in the in built amp on mine. I just made up some connectors for the line out on my JVC. Amp in the boot speakers works fine. Mine doesn't have sunroofs (sunrooves?) so can't help on that one

    Dead Head?

Of course, the plugs will have to be disconneted first or they may just burn the fuel off

    Dead Head?

Just had another thought. Again could be totally wrong but.... If you crank it and fuel is getting to the top of the injectors, if you whip a glowplug out, wouldn't that be wet if fuel was going into the pot?

    Dead Head?

As no-one else seems to be offering any help, I'll throw my tuppence in. I'm far from an expert in diesels but just going through very basic stuff is all the following sorted; Valve timing (even one tooth out can stop it dead, maybe) injection pump timing (was it locked off when the head...
