Hi all,
just found the forum, should have looked for it years ago...but to the point at hand, my 2000 Disco II seems to have reached some kind of mid-life crisis! A short while ago the radio packed up (an Alpine R990) and now the front sun roof starter motor seems to have become the favourite place where water leaking through from the sun roof has collected. So no more working motor! no more opening sun roof!

How can you help, well I'd relly like to get a replacement R990 radio so I can get the benefit of steering wheel control and HK speakler systems and it would be quite nice to get a new sunroof motor to fit back in so the sun roof works before the wet summer finally ends!!

Any suggestions or offers most welcome.

As temp running repairs - on the radio front I've fitted an off the shelf unit with resistors to cut out the amp power such a shame! and for the sun roof I am contemplating moving the rear sun roof motor to the the front as it'll be more use there.

thanks in advance for any suggestions

Don't know if it's the same as a 300TDi but there's a plug you can by on ebay to loop in the in built amp on mine. I just made up some connectors for the line out on my JVC. Amp in the boot speakers works fine.

Mine doesn't have sunroofs (sunrooves?) so can't help on that one

Thanks Stickybackbob.
I like 'sunrooves' :) Good idea re the radio if I can't find a replacement unit for the Alpine R990.

since the last posting I've managed to take the sunroof motor apart - actually I was just fiddling with it and it came apart in me hands Gov! Honest.

Well once apart, I've taken the chance to wash it all in methylated spirit to try and remove water residue and scraped some rusty flakes away. In daylight I'll oil/grease and test it out - update to follow and fingers crossed...

Hey thanks for the tip. I fited a good quality Sony to mine and it has phono outputs for the rear amp/ speakers. I wondered how I might connect them. What are they listed as?

Lazy bugger! ;)

Here's the number 170144276033.

Personally, I butchered an RCA plug with two spade connectors and plugged those directly into the LR multiplug. I'd load a piccie up but don't have one and can't be arsed pulling the stereo out.

If you're really struggling, I may be tempted to whip it out and take some pics. oo-er

Thanks SBB I'll check it out! I did try and search but without the right wording it was like looking for a needle in a haystack!

I have manual sunroofs on mine but if you need some info about stopping the water leaks, have a look here -

Hi Mantamad,
the best ideas are often simple! Thanks for the link to the guide. Mr B&Q look like they'll be getting some pennies for some black mastic!

I hope this fixes the leak as taking out the entire roof lining while effective may not be as simple/quick as the sponge I keep handy for mopping up the rain that gets in.

Wierdly, I've noticed that there are different types of rain! light drrizzel is the worst for getting in, good hard stormy stuff dosen't. Must be something to do with droplet size I guess.
