    intermittent start

Your symptoms sound similar to mine were. Mine turned out to be bad joints in the spider. Do a search for 'spider' in the discovery section and you should find some good links to fix this problem. Or of course, it could be anyone of the other fixes mentioned in the thread. Cheers

    chips anyone?

I had my windscreen smash from a stone last summer. Rang around a few places near home (Lancaster) and found majority were priced a bit high. Found one after a few calls that fitted the screen for £120 + VAT. I'll get the name if you're interested.

Just a note to say thanks to Redhand for his help. Turns out you can turn the pump by hand (the new one does and works well). The one I took off was well and truly FUBAR!

Cheers for the reply Redhand. I'll have a look in daylight but pretty sure my pumps gone.

Don't want to be a pain but are there any experts in power steering on here? Cheers

    Power steering

Hi to all. I hope someone can help here. Already done a search but not found an answer to my questions. Yesterday, I did a round trip of 120miles to pick my kids up. Disco has been serviced and was running well. Just as I pulled up outside my home, the steering stopped being powered (and no...

What year is your disco? I have a JVC head unit and changer (changer under the seat) and it's wired up to the sub in the speakers in the back door. What's the problem with yours (apart from it being able to play hide and seek rather well)?

Don't know if it's the same on yours but mine is in the speaker unit on the tailgate.

Discovery & Range Rover - Rear windows

Should have said, this is a fix I found and used for my 96 Discovery TDi. Think it also works on other models too.

    300tdi Alternator

What rpm was the engine doing when you measured the voltage? I'm no expert but if measured at tickover, I'd say that was pretty good.

Cheers for that, hope it does well. Seems to be only Disco's in there at the moment though. :D

    Common faults

I've done a quick search but couldn't find a similar thread so here goes. What about a section covering the most common faults with each vehicle? When I bought my disco, it had all the 'normal' faults with it including spider, rear windows and door lock springs. Now this forum has been...

    immobliser problem ?

The key fob works with an inhibitor ring around the lock barrel. It's a seperate part so if that hasn't been changed, then it shouldn't be the problem. Also, if this is the failure, then the 'key' sign lights up on the dash. Sounds more like a spider problem to me but could be a dodgy starter...

    key ignition

Punch or chisel, it's your choice. The whole thing can be removed without disconnecting the battery if you're feeling lucky. You'll need to get some new shear bolts or replace the ones you take out with normal hex bolts. If you use those though, it's easier to pinch! You could remove the...

    Cannot open rear door!

I have a similar problem. For months now, the back door wont open using the lever alone. I have to use the key to lift the lock then pull the lever. A classic symptom of the broken spring I hear you cry. I've checked the spring and it was there in an unbroken state. Whilst all the gubbins...

iv just had a long walk

Ok, you got me on that one but can you see my point? Petrols use an electrical circuit to ignite the fuel on a continuing basis (sparks), diesels don't. So, for the problem here, it's most likely to be a fuel problem than a leccy one. If it was an electric fault, it would most likely to...
