Why can freelander drive well in snow/ice?

A lack of low ratio will have little significance in the snow, in fact the commonest advice I used to hear was to start in second gear with most cars as it forces you to be gentle with the torque, exactly the oposite of using low ratio. I too found the FL much better in the snow than any other...

Can you safely use a marine/leisure battery in a Landy? Vote and discuss...

Not all leisure batteries will provide high CCA values and will suffer damage if used for starting frequently. Leisure batteries can have a relatively limited number of recharge cycles if discharged to low values although they do have better recovery characteristics from a deep discharge.

or alternatively anyone out there who has not lifted lifted their freelander and wish

The standard suspension geometry of any car is always a compromise of all the desirable features and parameters. 4x4 such as LRs, slittys etc. which have an emphasis for off road ability tend to be higher with good ground clearance, terrain control and such compared to scoobys, Audis and others...

    maf

MAF= Mass Air Flow. i.e. how much air is being drawn into the engine. In simple terms it is a heated element which is in the air intake system. the Engine Control Unit measures how much the air cools it as a guage of the airflow The air filter chamber runs along the back of the engine and the...

    additional fob

From what I have found previously (which may or may not be applicable for LR). When a fob key is pressed it generates a two part code. The 1st part is the serial no and is specific to the fob, the second is a rolling number using a specific algorithm which is different for each system...

    Need speakers for my Freelander

Alpine themslves make some with a good low end response in 160mm. The main problem I found was the standard fit does not have the mounting points equidistant around the edge so some work is required to get a good fit to the door skin for best quality sound. Separate tweeters will also improve...

    Spotlight wiring for freelander 1

Fogs within 400mm of the edge of the vehicle and below the bumperline can be used without dip beam so should draw the power for the relay (not the lights themselves) from the sidelights not the dip. Some earth the relay through the main beam to ensure they go off when these are selected...

Vibrating brake pedal after brake pad replacement etc...

The commonest cause I know of is a period of heavy continous braking then holding the brake on while stationary. It causes a hot spot where the pads are clamped to the disk and uneven cooling. Use cadence braking whenever possible and get the handbrake on when stationary. If you can plan ahead...

Can my FL go off road?

Despite the p!sstakes from the tractor boys they are fairly capable, as is said above don't be too ambitious but tracks are normally good. Watch out for deep ruts as the ground clearance is limited compared to dependers and strangers.

Vibrating brake pedal after brake pad replacement etc...

Normally caused by a warped disk although I can't see why it would show itself following the work you describe. Replace a number of disks due to this and it has cleared every time. If you have access to a dial test indicator you can check by how much although you can get a rough idea with a...
