Before I start into removing the exhaust manifold,to have a look at the cps,I would like to be sure that the revs are counted there.Got to let it cool for another 1/2 hour or so.
Sorry for starting a new thread for something I've already asked.

Thanx for the advice Beasty,I just got the cps out and it was covered in oil.Fingers crossed I've fixed my problem.

Thanx again for that useful advice beasty.I think I can answer my own question.

I changed the cps and now the rev counter is working fine. Not sure if I read it somewhere, doubt if it was just a hunch. So the revs are counted by the crankshaft position sensor in my lseries.

BoBs just in a mood cos he's got sunburnt after his mum didn't put any suncream on him today.

i dont see how a bit of oil would stop the cps working , its an induction device ( not photo sensor)
ummmm maybe a bad connection ?

I'M not rure it was the oil or the crack in the wire where it loins into the sensor.I think it just cut out the rev counter as soon as it got hot.Red light came on in the same place on each journey ,10miles in,light came on-reves died.I'm sure I saw a pic of one on lseries or e-bay.
