I had to replace the rear shock absorber lower mountings on my 93 TDi when one snapped off and the other didn't look to great. The bushes fitted are OEM and they have been just perfect. Repair was carried out 18 months back.

Definitey won't be going to Kwikfit especially after seeing watchdog last night. I doubt they'd be able to find the joints and bushes let alone test them.

I had a bump stop fall off and when preparing for MOT was advised to either replace missing or remove the other one. The bump stops are not part of the MOT but if you've one missing they take it into account and fail you. Removed the remaining one until I can get the bolts out to replace both.

Finding a good garage is great advice, better advice still is to find a good MOT station that DOESN'T do repairs so they have no axe to grind. The downsides are you are most likely to pay maximum fee for the test and the tester will be much stricter, not necessarily a bad thing.

Interesting you state rear bump stops missing as an MOT fail because they're not a testable item. Had one missing on mine and was told because one was in place they will notice the missing one so took off the other, sailed though.
