when you wired the lights up to the switch did you use a relay. When you say your back lights are on, which ones are they, but it sounds like you have managed to create a short between the battery and the lights on the back. take out the switch and undo what you did to it, should go back to...

have you checked the connectors that attach the ignition barrel to the loom, maybe by wiggling the loom in the engine bay you are moving the connectors by the switch? Easy enough to take the column covers off to look. hope this helps and on the right track Stand at ease, stand easy.... Stu

when your charging your battery you put the clips on the outside of the batt terminal which slightly scratches them giving good contact, give your battery terminal a good clean see if that helps, as the alt might not be able to charge the batt back up.. just a thought Stu
