Might not be any help but my 127 has a spring within the spring, weather it's because it's got the ambulance body or it's standard I don't know.... Could you fit a twin spring to yours ?

Yea , I installed radio , the sirens , pilar lights and exterior cab lights are also switched , it's the dial I can't work out , think it has something t do with central heating , I can assure you it's military issue , it served in the Falklands.

The trick is to scratch start it, I.e drag the rod down the steel to burn the first of the flux of and head the rod up , then it will burn the end rather than stick to the steel

Unless it's a massive amount of work I prefer stick welding, much better penetration for the thick stuff .

I had an old vitara than I only ever started with a screwdriver on the solenoid terminals :)
