Tracked down the source of an intermittent knocking sound today. Looks like one of the two propshaft centre bearings is worn out. Are there any hidden 'gotchas' that I need to consider before I order a new one and get my spanners out to replace it?

Well, by going from what I can glean from the web and what I know of the car I reckon it's an XEi.

I was going to suggest this problem might be caused by a broken front half-shaft but realise now it's been sorted.

I sometimes think that we're mis-understanding the purpose of the heater in a Landrover though. Most people assume it's to provide warm air to the cab but I'm of the opinion that it's actually a cunning cold-start device designed to extract the maximum amount of warmth from the cab and...

But hey, everyone should learn how to double de-clutch :) My old Series IIA/III mixture has got a Series III box but it's best to double de-clutch in all gears because it's knadgered.

So why is it so expensive? If you can't afford the cover and you can't bear to part with the car then you need to change something else that's making it so pricey.

We have a 1998 Freelander but when I come to think about it I don't know exactly which model it is: XE/GS/etc. Is there any way to tell? I have the chassis number if that helps. Haven't had it long and have yet to receive the new V5 from DVLA.

I'm glad it's not all doom and gloom about Freelanders. I recently bought an S-registered 1.8 petrol Freelander and have been surprisingly pleased with it.
