Finally got round to testing my alternator and I'm getting a reading of 0v. I run an earth straight back to the battery and tested both positives on the alternator and got no reading at all. I would assume my alternator is shot. That will be my 4th alternator in 8 months.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately when it comes to electrics I don't know how to do much so I think I'm going to send in to be repaired.
I have a few other faults with the electrics as well. Not sure if they are linked. My three dials on my dash don't work at all but there is a positive...
I get a reading of between 0 and 0.02 Ohms which I assume means I have a good earth?
I don't understand electrics at all. All I know is they need a +ve and -ve with a good earth.
Thanks for the reply. Guessing I'm going to have to find out what's putting such a drain on the battery. If its the alternator causing the problem again that will be the 4 in the space of a year 😡 not to happy about that.
Turned out to be my ignition switch had a little camp fire behind the display so now I've changed that and got a new battery as my old one wasn't holding a charge very well.
But now my fuel/temp/clock aren't working and my new battery isn't charging. If I changed my old battery (510 amps) for...
Wasn't sure if someone might of been doing a conversion because I thought you were meant to change the barrel if you were, I might be completely wrong on that. Still learning, think I will always be learning haha.
To be honest the battery may be about 4 or 5 years old now. But normally it works fine and then just randomly (at the most incontinent times) it decides not to work. Going to check earths tomorrow. Problem is there are so many to check haha.
Ok so the saga continues. Started fine first thing. Pulled it forwards about 20yards so passenger could get in and I turn it off as we weren't going to leave for about half an hour. Jump in half an hour later and go to start her and I only have the battery and oil lights come up like normal then...
Hi everyone,
Once again a bit puzzled by my landy. It's a 1988 90 with a 2.5td (1989 I believe) engine put in it. Has been working fine, starting fine and everything. Then one night I stop and turn the engine off then about 10 mins later went to start it again and there was nothing, no lights...
I have the same engine and the same problem. If its the pipe running downwards under the turbo then that's the oil drain pipe. Took me ages to get hold of a 2nd hand one, no new ones about that I could find. I was told that the 200tdi drain pipe will fit but it didn't with mine. It came up short.
