My neighbour changed his TD5 fuel filter for an OEM one this weekend, he says its cured all the little problems and it drives like a different car!

Basically perfomance, wasnt good at all. Dont get me wrong, im not wanting ferrari standards just a touch more get up and go out of junctions etc.

Fuel pump??

Ive reset all the pump mods i did back to standard, they were smoke screw 90deg, star wheel 180deg and diaphragm 45deg plus a half turn on max fuel screw on the back. How would i tell if the timing was out?

Smoke seems to be unburnt fuel and the noise (getting louder) is loudest on the fuel pump. What are these like to change? Can they just be rebuilt?

Do you have any reccomendations for a decent make of kit?

Ive tried bleeding it down, but i manually have to lift the pedal back up making me think one of the cylinders is shot. It really does make such a difference, been running it for a month or so. I get loads of smoke from mine now though and it seems to be when i adjust the diaphragm, even by 30 degrees. Smoke screw doesnt seem to dial it out either. Any ideas?

As paul mc says, 11mm nut on top in centre, then give it a tap and it'll come free. If i have one bit of advice, crack it off into a plastic bag, when it comes off all the diesel inside will run down your arm and also splash in your eyes! Been there done that!
