Doesn't say that in his post.... I was just asking what gasket he has fitted. No car is faultless - I was suggesting that he had one final go at it and have it done properly (assuming it been repaired with the elastomeric bead gasket which are more prone to failure).

Rear diff oil Leak. oh eck!

Tell me about it!! - had a slight weep (1 drip overnight) on the O/S rear diff after new wheel bearings were fitted and had to do the same. New seal cured the problem. Regards, Steve

    engineers report

Unless you have a warranty from where you purchased the vehicle then I dont think there is much you can do. When it was repaired on the previous occasions can you tell me what type of gasket was fitted?? It might be worthwhile (if you haven't already done so) having the engine stripped...

    steamy windows

'coming from the body heat' - sorry couldn't resist!! Mines the same chap - I blame it on the missus for constant gassing (criticising) when i'm at the wheel!! - well it only ever happens on her side!! Regards, Steve

    Whats with the different ratios?

Should be able to swap components about between petrol PG1 freelanders and Diesel PG1 freelanders. Rover diffs wont fit due to the IRD splined drive being larger than the standard driveshaft spline size. I think mine is way too low - im in third at 30 and fourth / fifth at 40. First is a...

    alloys

Glad to hear they fitted ok. Post 2000 wheels fit any freelander 1 regardless of year. Attached are my latest :) on a 1998 'R' Freelander. Regards, Steve

    Non starter

Nope, follow the red wire (thick) to the starter motor. Above you will see a plastic insulator surrounding a small spade connector (Black). Remove, clean the terminal with emery paper (it may be green or white and corroded) and refit. Happened to me twice so far and I keep a small bit of emery...

    Whats with the different ratios?

I understood Final drive to be calculated from the differential inside the PG1 gearbox. I would guess that they fit a different diff - like they do in the 21 combinations of PG1 for Rover models. The rear diff (TVK100380) is the same for both petrol and diesel models. Regards, Steve

    freelander engine swap.

You could not - as the IRD input shaft would not fit the LSD. I didn't say you did agree with the points raised - I was just surprised at his guess work!! One way you could use the T series and LSD equipped PG1 is to go with your idea of the 2WD freelander, but even then you would have to...

    Replacement hippo mirrors ?

Drilling is the easy part, and it is 13mm. The mirror mounts with small screws that screw into small plastic hollow tubes. You will also need to investigate the two large bolts (IIRC torx type) that secure the mirror to the door frame. I think the location changed on the later mirrors. I...

    freelander engine swap.

Read the thread about the gearbox - Those codes were all boxes fitted to 220 and 420 models. K4BS or K6BS was in my 220. Its worrying to read that he thinks the freelander diff would fit!! Yes if both splined openings were equal, but one is much bigger!! (Sorry i'm not technical!!) What can...

    freelander engine swap.

With the modified gasket / oil rail / steel dowels?? I might live to regret it, but I'm a big fan of the improvements - certainly solved my engine's issues and doing ok 17,000 on. Guess I should report back when 50,000 covered!!

    freelander engine swap.

Gearbox input shaft is identical to R220. I tried to fit a S4EM (freelander petrol) gearbox to my 220 after my diff bearings collapsed. I wanted to use the different ratios and also the stronger needle roller bearings. In the end I stripped both boxes, used the freelander gear clusters (as 5th...

    freelander engine swap.

Lotus use the K series in thier vehicles (now superceeded by Toyota engines) - I'm guessing that they tweak them. K Series Engines And Parts 20BHP - well you could free 5 horses with a K&N air filter (£60) and perhaps 5 more with a sporty stainless exhaust (£300). Other than that its a case...

    freelander engine swap.

The bell housing is slightly different - namely the mounting bolt holes to engine. I have a new T series bell housing in my garage if anyone is considering this swap. I would guess that the engine mounts would be different, however Rover fitted this and the K series into their MK2 200's -...

The grills are screwed to the rear of the door trim with four screws. You do indeed have to remove the panels to replace / remove. Regards, Steve

    Freelander CD Changer Upgrade (again)

I have the OE LR setup in my vehicle. You can buy either a yellow plug with two sets of preouts (grundig type) or a long rectangular connector to allow pre outs on Philips R770, Becker and Visteon units. The OE stuff sounds pretty good - I do have a 900W sub for a bit more bass, and I have...

    Freelander CD Changer Upgrade (again)

I have never seen such an adaptor. I have thought about buying a damaged changer with the DIN plug and swapping the internal printed circuit board. (There is a small ribbon cable that connects the changer internals to the smaller interface board) Would be much simpler to fit a RC026 cd changer...

    Alloy Wheel help

The only genuine LR 18" alloys that fit the freelander are the 'sport ones'. Freelander did not come with 19s as standard or as an option. Regards, Steve
