After buying some new wheels a few months ago which are now stock size, compared to the tiny wheels i originally had. When i corner it feels as if im gonna roll over and the vehcle in general feels pretty shakey when going over bumps or potholes. Am i right in thinking a new set of bushes are...

Its possible, but it would depend on the stud pattern/spacing of the wheels, their offset and width, bearing in mind that to be road leagal the wheels + tyres must remain within the arches. Without any info on your defender age or wheels your looking at its hard to be more specific. Ollie

Anythings possible if you shop around, for instance i bought my 90 3 years ago in reasonable nick with the latter 200tdi engine for £750 although the millage is around 192,000 its still a pretty good price considering the engine costs around £300-£500 ish if fitted yourself. 2.5 N/A refferrs...

Yeah i'll take note, ive gotta say the torque setting for the gearbox and transfer box doesnt seem that high so i can see why/how people can easily over tighten them. I'll undo tomorrow and add plumbers tape as suggested and een if it still weaps a little, its prefferable to stripping threads.

Yeah i was reading something about them being tapered the other day on the difflock site, i'll see how it goes for a few days and if the area round the plugs is still a little oily i'll tape them. By the way the g-box filter was full, and i mean jammed full of metal flakes which resembled bits...

Righto, over the weekend i did a full oil change (bar swivels) and although in the diffs, gearbox and transfer box i only filled until the filler plug (allowing remaining oil to drain) before tightening up the plug, over the last few days ive notices a bit of weaping from around the plugs...

It could be that youve got a dogey earth and the previous owner wanted to wire up something like an amp or winch that draws a fair whack of current without it turning other devices off, or being turned off itself by other devices. I know that is the case for my 90, when i put a headunit in...

Too true, i was looking at getting some sensible diameter tyres for my 15" wheels, ended up working out cheeper buying a new (well good second hand set) set with rubber on.

I replaced my fan with a new bearmach hublast year and although the original was pretty shot, i dont recall it vibrating, still i guess it wouldnt hurt replacing as there only about 30 quid. Ollie

Oops! looks like i jynxed it, was on the a303 earlier and after being shunted by an artic my 90 decided to go off the end of the white :mad: its usually fine, but think a new rad's on the cards.. Ollie

Mine runs at a bit over half on a gentle drive and a litte close to the end of the white sometimes when doing say 50-60, but id say 20% of my rad fins have fallen off, i just havent got round to replacing it yet. Ollie

I havent done it but i guess you could grab one from a disco or similar, or even B&Q and bolt/self-tap it through the dash no problem cos its just a profile of bent steel :) Ollie

Oh yeah, forgot about the hellicoil, or i guess a cheeper solution would be just to drill a larger hole and re tap to accomodate a larger diameter bolt if possible, unless you allready own tools for installing coils. :) Ollie

I guess failing that you could just remove it, sandblast/wire brush it till smooth, then give it a few coats of etch primer then top coat.. sorted :) Ollie
