Alarm problem - help!!!! (no really - i'm going insane)

How about removing the low handset batteries (hence beeping on entry), holding down or pressing the buttons with batt removed and then fitting new cells and rapidly pressing the unlock button 5 times in quick succession to resynchronise. Have done the above to many freelanders (same as what...

    Michelin Synchrone - your opinions...

Thanks Ming - I'll leave them on and see what happens. Worst case scenario - tie a rope to the front and challenge the kids to pull it free!!

    Michelin Synchrone - your opinions...

I guess it depends on the age of your vehicle. However, 15" steelies were fitted to models with both types of brakes. Why not go for 16's (alloys) as there are more off road tyres in that size. Plenty on ebay and they go quite cheap!!

    Michelin Synchrone - your opinions...

Thanks... I have worn a set of scorpions out from new on a Disco 2 - they were very good when new, but fit only for road use once half worn. I was continually struggling over muddy fields. I guess I'll chance it as there is a track to get in an out of the location. Its just very useful when...

    Michelin Synchrone - your opinions...

I have now got my freelander shod with 17" Michelin Synchrones after a wheel upgrade. I'm off camping with the school in June and July and would like other users opinions of the tyres. I know they are reasonably quiet and provide a good mileage, but I need to know if they will get me out of...

Thanks for the reply - just a thought :)

    remove prop-shaft

Just a quick question: If the whole assembly is removed and left in a garage for say 6 months, would this speed up the VCU seizure rate?? I'm back in 4x4 mode (as off to school camp twice in June) and all running well, but just occured that if I were to go 2WD and leave my VCU in my garage...

    Brake Pads

Also bear in mind you will need the early type pad as they changed in late 2000 to a different pad. The early pads are identical in shape to Rover 200, 400 and 800 models if this helps identify the correct ones. Make sure tou have some copaslip for the backs of the pads, and give the...

New 2nd Key Fob - Is the dealer best place for this?

Is your fob a two button with built in key or two button with 17TN, 3TXB, or 3TXC on the rear?? There are loads of the 17TN (most recent and superceded the 3XT* keys) available on ebay and many people can program them at a fraction of the dealer charges. I know a reputable guy in Brighton...

    Where is the water pump?

Water pump is on driver side of the engine - surrounded by and driven by your cambelt. You will need to remove the plastic cambelt covers to gain access. I would change the water pump and gasket as well as cambelt, and as a preventitive measure, the power steering and alternator drivebelts...

    Freelander Lift Kit

One thought.... By lifting the body (to which the VCU is bolted) - surely you put more strain on the UJ's etc. The remaining drivetrain (gearbox, IRD and rear diff) all stay in thier original locations. If the VCU mounts were spaced (the same difference as the lift kit) from the body...

    SRS Story

Mick - have you checked the airbag connection?? (yellow one at rear of airbag). Have seen a few fall off and cause SRS light to illuminate. If thats ok - try under the seat connections - even spray with WD40 and reconnect. Regards, Steve

    steamy windows

Just reading this thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/changing-pollen-filter-56482.html Maybe worth removing the pollen filter to see if the extra movement of air keeps the vehicle windows clearer. I'm gonna try it for sure... Regards, Steve

Alloys - where to get from

Pick up a copy of LRO and check out Simmonites of Bradford - they have many packages on sale. Your looking at about £800 with tyres, but far much cheaper than buying from a LR dealer!! Regards, Steve

Connecting RC026 to R770 Head Unit

Do you have the blue 8 pin connector?? If so you either need a convertor (think I may have one somewhere), or you heed to change the lead for a 10 pin to round DIN type plug (Have one of these also) If either are any use - PM me an offer. Regards, Steve

    backboxs

Rimmer bros do a few for the freelander, so do double 's' exhausts in devon. I was thinking of doing the same, but will prob put a standard one on as the genuine LR one has been on the car for 6 years now (I have patched up a couple of places). Also will keep my insurance down. Regards, Steve

    Changing pollen filter!

They changed them on later models. My '98 has plastic fixings, but I have seen 6mm gold colour bolts on later models. Regards, Steve

Rear diff oil Leak. oh eck!

Mine was the seal - but the oil ran down and appeared to be coming from the back (black) plate that colts to the rear diff. LR state that RTV sealent is to be used - I'd probably use hermetite as I have been confidemce inspired by this product.

    steamy windows

I thought about this too - I have removed the lid and use the extra space when shopping. Sadly it didn't change the steaming up issue!! Regards, Steve

    engineers report

I would assume that they have used the standard gasket. It has a rubber beading which over time breaks down and allows water and oil to mix or loss of compression. The new land rover MLS gasket has a stainless steel construction with a top piece that the cylinder head kinda bites into when...
