I have just tried to start the car again to see if the problem still persists - some how magically all seems to be fine. I'm glad it is. Just out of curiosity, what does the flashing 'P' and the flashing crossed 'D' mean - I could not see any information about this in the handbook?

I initially thought that too, but that sound only appears on the odd occasion, not every few seconds.

Cannot hear it when moving due to engine and road noise, but is heard when stationary and in any gear (automatic). I thought it was the self-levelling sound, but this hiss appears every 10-12 seconds.
