like i said earlier ,most likely your fuel pump is on its way out, at over 100k its about time for a change anyway and they dont last forever, you should be able to hear it running as you switch on, sometimes a gentle tap will help if that is the case replace it asap

fuel pump issue is the most likely culprit, if yours has done anywhere near 100 k miles then just replace it, as its only a matter of time befor it fails completly, cost about £120 for oem of ebay and quite easy to replace , i think your wasting your money having it diagnosed at a garage...

cam shaft sensor is a likely culprit, try starting it on easy start see if it runs

wax oils or any old oil will prevent rust from getting a hold, if it is done annually, i wouldnt use paint or under seal as it will just corroded undeneath, the oils penatrate into the rust, apply using a paint brush or hand sprayer its very effective and cheap
