my thought on this, its been wired up to show when temp goes up as oppose to looking at the clock a sort of secondry warning , ive never seen it done or fitted to series before but going back a few years they were fitted to the trucks i was driving at the time.
no reason why, but safe way is follow or track wire back , probably to the battery, then disconnect it, last thing you want is a sparky, or snip 1 wire and insulate then snip the other , as for the throttle cable disconect that and away to go

most likely cause by your statement, engine or gearbox mnt, but it could also be your prop shafts coming loose, or uj knackerd, it could be no end of things, the best way forward is eliminate all the things it could be by checking each item.
yes you can have the pump overhalled/recoditioned and the way forward first is go on the internet, look under diesel injection services, the next step try and get an estimate of the cost these people are not cheap, then weigh the cost against a recon unit or new none of which are cheap if you...

the pics dont tell you alot, could be from g/box in that case would smell like tom cat ****, it could be from the rear engine seal, gear box or engine out 1 or the other, could be from the sump, the draft from travelling would blow the oil dripping on to bell housing.which will give you a false...
