The heads are of! Valves knackerd!

Another update. Dropped the exhaust valves of to the chap who's refurbing my cylinder heads today. He tells me to come and have a look. They look good I say, all freshly skimmed ready for the valves to be seated in. He then asks me if I can see any difference between them. On closer inspection...

    Coolant Hose help

I done the same thing mate. All I done was get some coolent hose the correct diameter to go over the original plastic pipe and clipped it both ends.

Thats great advice. Thank you. I will take the lifters out and compress them before fitting the rocker gear. Give them a check over at the same time. Just waiting for the parts to arrive. Will let you all know how I get on.

    are these really oem lifters

That is a huge difference in price. I wonder if it's like the belt tensionor I brought as a patten part that turns out to be the same as landrover use.

The heads are of! Valves knackerd!

In the instructions I have read about removing the cylinder heads it doesn't say anything about removing the lifters. Should I take them out and compress them? The engine never had a tapping noises.

The heads are of! Valves knackerd!

Thanks for all the advice, What is liquid gold? I did take the pushrods out and have them placed in a trusty piece of cardboard. The lifters are still in place, what's the best way to check them? So once I torque up all the head bolts I should leave them for a while to settle then torque them...

I did notice some coolent staining on the left hand side of the block when I was removing the heads. Will measure up the dowls and check them tomorrow when I drop of the new exhaust valves.

The heads are of! Valves knackerd!

No one has ever told me before to use any lube before! I had the LPG system installed new, I would have thought they would tell me to use this. They said I should never have any problems with it. Well it's killed the valve seats in the left hand c/h. Right hand one don't look to bad.

The heads are of! Valves knackerd!

Quick update, dropped the heads of today. Spent a bit of time there with the engineer. Valves deffinatelty not sealing. Valve seats worn! Only on the left hand block? When he looked at my head gaskets straight away he thinks the gasket has not been compressed enough to make the cyclinders gas...

Liners are all level. Will have a closer look at it when I get home. Dropping the heads of this afternoon for pressure checkin. Thanks for the in put!

The heads are of! Valves knackerd!

Pulled the heads over the weekend due to the coolent system pressurising and no compression or very low compression in the left hand bank. Once the heads were of I thought it looked like the head gasket was leaking as there is residue around the gasket. A second opinion reckons that's just oil...

    My compression test results!

Heads of today. Looks like the head gasket has been leaking all across the one side. There looks to be alot of carbon build up on the valves. The holes where you can see the camshaft are very rough. Is this just the way they are? Will get some pics up soon. Dropping the heads of Monday for...

P38 v L322 costs and ease of maint'

I like my p38. Had it six years, was thinking about a L322 last year. But the old saying my Dad once told me. I could buy a new car for 20k or I could have 15k cash in my hand and my p38. Started stripping the top end on mine today. May need a new block, I will find out tomorrow when I pull of...

    My compression test results!

I can honestly say it did not run that bad. It did overheat but I shut it off straight away. Started it on the drive, and all seemed fine until I run it up on a fast idle, then there was evidence of exhaust gases in the coolent.

    My compression test results!

Running wise. The engine did not sound that bad. No knocking, a little lumping perhaps. Will start stripping it down when I get home from work today.
