    light bulbs

I'd be more worried about burning out the MOSFET(?) relays in the BECM.

Random coolant spew on floor but never seen

Yes it is that bad! If you want to keep an old £200 banger on the road for another month - it does the job. But IMHO in the long term it will do more harm than good.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Good man - let your finances recover and then wreck them again! :D There's an old(well modernish) adage: "If you want to become a millionaire - start out as a billionaire and then buy an airline" I suspect it could be adapted for Range Rover ownership. "If you want to become insolvent -...

    Transfer box anyone?

It was the same in the London docks - prices were so high because importers expected only 3 of 4 good shipped to make it through the port! On the estate I grew up on, the Dockers were considered to be well-off! What stopped them getting properly rich was they didn't know what they were nicking...

Rear wheel tc vs 4 wheel tc

Why would an 01 be worse than a 99 - it's the same car.

    p38s are flippin good

Comfy compared to a tractor or Defender perhaps - don't get me wrong I love my p38 - but after usually driving Jags and big Citroëns it feels like a donkey cart with leather seats. I think of it as a comfy Defender - which is pretty much where I'd place it.

    'gas, gas, gas'

Buckinghamshire's a big place but I'm fairly close to parts of it. See how your chipped diesel fairs against a tired high mileage 4.6 - I don't hold out much hope for you! :) Both are slugs of course compared to most cars - only one is sluggier! :D

    Eas question

Okay there's no cap, can the solenoid coils themselves retain current momentarily or does the movement of the magnet in the windings generate current? And yes your point about modulation is the one I was making earlier - I see no evidence of modulation of the current to effect a soft close, the...

Rear wheel tc vs 4 wheel tc

Of course that applies if the system has been operating CONTINOUSLY for a minute - the chances of that are pretty slim. I've been off road in quite sticky situations and never had the overheat warning despite the TC light flashing regularly. Even if it did overheat regularly (which I've never...

    Eas question

If you cut the final decay trail at the same width after the other pulses you'll see there's no difference other than the delay is allowed to continue (voltage has been cut off) whether this is to "soft close" the solenoid or not is open to debate - I suspect there's a capacitor there to smooth...
  12. StuckAgainSteve

    Eas question

The last tail doesn't look any different to me to the other decays other that it was allowed to complete - perhaps there's a big cap in there and that's what we're seeing? It looks like the voltage is held to energise the solenoid and then pulsed to hold it. I'd expect to see the amplitude of...

    'gas, gas, gas'

No chance whatsoever. One of my very first posts on here was posting a vid of a 0-60 test coz a chipped p38 diesel owner wanted to know if his car was as fast - the answer was an emphatic "no". I didn't even bother with sport mode. (never do) A decently tuned diesel may just keep up with a 4.0...

    Eas question

It would be easy enough to prove either way - get a 'scope or a decent logging voltmeter on the output of the driver pack. I'd be bloody surprised if they were as fancy as pulsing voltages to soften the valve closure - but then Land Rover do have a habit of spending money in the wrong areas!

P38 battery drain in 2 days

Correct - which means you can use modern batteries on a post 99 V8 and get a full charge.

Rear wheel tc vs 4 wheel tc

Nope the P38 is still my daily driver. I used an emergency Honda while my oil pump was being replaced (too busy to do it myself!) back piling on the miles.

Random coolant spew on floor but never seen

K-Seal will not fix a knackered water pump - it will ruin a perfectly good rad and heater matrix - pretty much writing your car off at dealer prices.

Rear wheel tc vs 4 wheel tc

That's exactly the situation 4 wheel TC is required. Yes the brakes will take a pounding but it WILL get you out of trouble. Diff locks are the preferred option but Land Rover were too stingy to fit them. I've been properly off road in mine a few times and the brakes have been fine.

Coil spring conversion - how to disable the dash lights

It's always puzzled me why Citroën's wonderful oleopneumatic suspension system didn't make it to a 4x4. I'd buy a DS5 tomorrow if it had that suspension.

Random coolant spew on floor but never seen

Possibly the water pump on the way out - the coolant is probably from the water pump weep hole.
