Non return valve in fuel system?

Can anybody tell me if there is a non return valve in the fuel system on my 98 L series diesel? I *think* mine is simply letting fuel drain back into the tank making starting hard. All the usual stuff has been checked for air leaks but this problem is still driving me nuts! I was going to try...

My Freelader gave me a ....... for Christmas!

My Freelander gave me a busted window regulator cable for Christmas bless her! Now then, which one of the kits on Fleabay is the recommended one? I remember someone here saying there are some good ones and some bad..... Anyone bought and fitted a "good" one recently and can recommend the seller...

free lander seems tight :) plus other q,s

If the tyres squeal then it sounds like the VCU is buggered. Get a recon one and fit matching tyres, never ever have newer tyres on the front!!!

free lander seems tight :) plus other q,s

A 'tight' feeling on full lock is normal, my Hippo with recon IRD and VCU plus four new tyres feels like the brakes go on at low speed full lock, like parking. If it also makes noises like clunks while doing this then thats bad.... If you can, check the VCU (Big donught shaped round steel bit in...

    Hmmmmm :) Where's me hammer!

    V6 Auto HSE

I may have chance of a V6 Auto HSE 2001 which has cooked, needs head gasket(s) etc. I was thinking of breaking it for the bits I want on mine (Leather etc) but thought was 1. Is it worth repairing a V6? 2. As it is I am told spotless condition, is it worth considering an engine swap? What fits...

    gearbox swap

I would bet it's the IRD (transfer) box that's faulty and not the gearbox. Gearbox=cheap secondhand. IRD=loads of beer tokens exchange!! (£650ish) + usually the VCU needs refurb to stop the new IRD going bang, another £250.... :) Did mine early this year, well worth the hassle.

    2 stroke oil in diesel

It's been legal to make your own bio-diesel for years, at least two! C&E won't bother you unless you sell it. It has to be proper bio-diesel though, not just fat chucked in.

    For gods sake......

Have you checked for excess heat around the wheel after a journey? If you have not used the brakes much just before stopping then it may point to the problem area?

I had to read it three times! Check the intercooler hose?

Freelander 1 face lift detachable tow bar

I just fitted one of these: eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace It's 2.5 ton and removes via two bolts when required. Easy to fit and very heavy! You will need the towing relay to upgrade your towing light on the dash I suspect or you can fit the buzzer that's in this kit.

    Towing Relay

So are you saying it's a regulation I have to observe? I do have a bleeper for the indicators but didn't fit the crappy thing! Will I be in breech of the MOT as well??
  14. luggsey

    Towing Relay

I just fitted a new tow hitch and electrics to my Hippo. Do I 'need' to fit the towing relay? I have a supply at the indicator wiring which pulses in time with the car indicators so I 'assume' this 'special' relay simply activates the trailer light in the dash? If that's all it does I would...

I think I broke my Freelander

Yep, Bell Engineering, 100% They sorted out my VCU and re-sent it repaired again after the courier damaged it.

Fuel tank leak-part no longer made?

The one I have looks like new except it's opened along the seam. I 'assume' they no longer make or use them due to this fault. That's why I won't use a second hand one, if that splits I could lose a tank fulk of fuel....

    Pretty much.... North Devon! :5bcheers2:

Fuel tank leak-part no longer made?

Well in-between rain showers I have fitted the repaired pipe and put 25l of fuel in the tank. Fingers crossed! I would still like to source a replacement ESR 4283 if anyone can help? If not maybe someone can tell me if a TD4 filler neck replaces my older one? :car:

Fuel tank leak-part no longer made?

Do you think they will help on such an old car?
  20. luggsey

Can anyone help, I'd be very grateful :)

I agree, unless it REALLY cheap it will end up costing loads to fix. As already said unless it's a 'fun' car you don't need to use every day, steer clear.....
