I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Just looking at the corrosion around the windscreen, best option will probably be to remove the screeno_O! Done some searching, looks like fun . Ah well the seal's looking a bit ropey anyway, and there's a couple of chips in the screen. Downside being I've just attached a new DAB...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

It's amazing what youtube comes in handy for, that's where I looked for the seat foams. I'm a novice too, never worked on any of my cars, I can't use the electronics as an excuse on this. I'm even considering servicing mine, only thing putting me off is my mate could probably do it cheaper as...

Will do, you too, have you started a thread??

No worries. I've think they're generally cheap to repair. However they need repairs quite often

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Cheers very much. I used Hycote plastic primer, then Hycote satin black. I washed the grilles using warm water with fairy liquid and a scotch brite pad. Rinsed, allowed to dry, then wiped over with IPA to degrease. Primed with about 4 light coats, left to dry for 24 hours. I used just under...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Thanks for the advice Turboman, it is appreciated. I wish it was a flat colour, it would be so much easier to paint after repairing. Must remember it's a Landrover  Luckily I'm fairly handy with a windy as my apprenticeship covered structural/sheet work and such like, so I could...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Will do my best, will get the pressure washer out and give it a blast off. I'm sure there will be a few more things pop up along the way. I won't be getting another, my dad seems quite interested in it though. Whenever I'm messing around on the drive he normally pops out to see what's going on...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

So here are the bad points I've found so far. Not pictured, the engine drops a few drops of oil overnight, nothing too major so it's not a major priority until my parents decide to tarmac the drive. Nothing too major here either, the tub floor has a few holes so will repair at some point if it...

Ah I see, cheers! Yeah I've owned Fords all my life so know how it gets in and spreads like wild fire, small bubble becomes big bubble quite rapidly. Yeh will look into it soon, along with the other bit on the bulkhead :(

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

So before I point out the bad bits, I'll just update another little thing I've done. At some point someone's sprayed the light surrounds and grilles and fitted a blanket on the front grille. I decided to remove all three, take off the blanket and spray the plastics black again. Before: After...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Evening all, this is a friendly club isn't it. Thanks for the welcomes :) . Sadly I've left the worser bits until tonight haha. That's my next port of call, my mate works at a garage who use Waxoyl, so I should be able to get mates rates. If not I'll either get researching or buy a compressor...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Thanks. For a while after I got it I kept looking at hard tops thinking I should have saved a chunk of money and bought one of them instead, it's pretty much only me and one other at the most in it. The side windows are good for checking blind spots though. It has grown on me now, although when...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

Cheers :) I know what you mean, they use a TD5 pickup at work to tow around things weighing up to about 6 tons. The only modifications are; special tow mounts, and uprated brakes, that's it! I could see mine being in pieces when something happens. I'd love to have a galvanized chassis and...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

The snorkel has obviously taken a hit at some point, which has broken the bracket which supports it. The previous owner obviously thought and old shelf bracket with only 2 screws was a suitable replacement: I had removed 2 bolts from the snorkel itself in those pictures. I bought a bit of...

I Wanted One, I Bought One, I Don't Know Why, is This Normal?

So I've had a bit of a thing for Defenders for about 2 or 3 years. I live in a tiny Village in Dorset and occasionally get flooded in, sometimes snowed in, and see the local farmers just plodding through 12-18 inches of water no worries. So a bit of an impulse buy this one, dangerous I know...

    Will it do any harm....

The oil will probably be slightly thicker when the engine is up to temperature, so could reduce fuel consumption slightly. Some engines are a bit temperamental about engine oils though so sadly can't say if the TD5 will operate. Is there an acceptable alternatives section in the owners manual?

    More questions?!

I had a search on youtube and found a few guides, youtube has everything!

    Direnza intercooler

Not directly related to Defenders, but quite a few Direnza intercoolers have failed after 18 months or so, on Focus ST's. I'm guessing the Focus produces a lot more heat/pressure but as already stated you get what you pay for!

Defender 90 300tdi M reg exhaust pipe problems

Could you not go to an exhaust fabricator?? They could build exactly what you want. Someone along the lines of these: Stainless Steel Exhausts | TopGear.co.uk Wouldn't do any harm going and having a chat with them, possibly have a nose around an exhaust they've made to see quality before...

Insurance and MOT implications after station wagon conversion.

I think my 90 CSW is classed as 4x4 utility? The chassis number points to it being a genuine station wagon. Might be mistaken, my minds all over the shop at the moment!
