In the surprising amount of boxes that arrived was the swivel kits, these contain oil seals but naturally the bags are not labelled :mad: and a couple look almost the same? There are three odd seals, odd in that they all have steel between the inner and outer edges and not just rubber coated...

The info I have is that disco 1's without ABS had dual circuit calipers, with ABS they had single circuit calipers BUT they also say that ABS models never had vented discs which I want to fit. I can't see any problem with the job as long as all fits physically, bleeding can be dealt with later...

Turns out that ABS ones had one pipe, non ABS had two pipes, cant find anyone that will talk to me regarding the upgrade as its cross-model etc and wont talk in case its wrong :mad: Where am i going to find a blanking plug now???? One dealer even said i cant blank it as one pipe does one side...

Ok, parts arrived. The caliper / disc upgrade is the first stumbling point... The calipers each have TWO pipe fittings but i only have ONE pipe, what do i stuff in the other hole? Need to get parts today from somewhere.....

i dont have a manual here so im just guessing, does the back axle have a bolted on stub axle? if so, can you reach the bolts with the hub in place? if yes then take the whole lump off and get it pressed out. if not then a three leg puller is probably the way forward as mentioned. you will...

Its the maximum fuel screw really, called smoke screw cos if its done wrong it will smoke like feck.:) you dont always have to do all tweaks, i have only done the diaphragm stop screw and twiddled the diaphragm a little.

Also noticed last night that it had an extra thrust washer stuffed under the top pin, explains why its got a great thick wedge of shims under the pin i suppose:o

Takes your chances I guess but paddocks sell the pattern races for £1.75 ea which would put doubts in my mind as to exactly what they are made out of:eek: The bottom swivel does not rotate much as most bearings do but they take a hammering on every bump of the wheel, I try not to use cheapo...

Flick the engine over and try the pump lever again, it may just have been resting on the cam. I think a duff pump can cause the symptoms but that air box does look dodgy to me.

Ok, I guess I could refit the old ones, they seem ok. What's the idea of the top pin, I see it has a thrust race to take the preload but the outer bearing seems to be some sort of bushing?

Don't think it's deep enough to do a good repair with liquid metal but too deep to ignore I think, looks like another order coming up. Parts? 2x DA3166 Teflon ball kits, 2x STC226 top swivel pins for abs, Anything else? The price difference between the ball alone and the ball kit is only £3...

Its not as rough as it looks but definitely pitted, i stoned the sharp edges away but naturally it revealed more crap, am i looking at new balls, swivel bearings etc???? Its halfway up on the front face of the ball, inside the area covered by the seal when straight ahead. Need to order quick...

Err, you are contradicting yourself here. If you want to do it properly, get the tool or have one made up, its just a wading bung with a shaft through it. tricky bit is drilling the bung perfectly central. Its well worth the hassle/small cost to get the right tool.
