on the back below the output shaft cover next to the handbrake there should be a sticker saying what ratio it is. should be 1.4 If no stickers look at the serial number in the same place and check them with ashcrofts website. its the first 3 digits you want. 28E for example.

thats just it i dont know if they do correctly. personally i would stick to a proper 200 item whether disco or defender if you can find one! Maybe try googling it and you may find something, cant remember where i came across it now!

some people have done it but the studs do not line up. they had to cut a long piece of flat plate and clamp the manifold top and bottom to the head that way. looked a bit **** to me but it seemed to work!

that looks pretty good compared to some of the bird **** welding i've seen in the past! A td5 box will be no good as the input shaft is about a mile long compared to others. if you fit a 300 defender r380 you will have to move the engine forward as the bellhousing and shaft is the same length...

our td5 at work does the same thing when cold. we just leave a brick on the throttle for 5 mins and its fine when its warmed up! I've heard lots that they dont like the cold. perhaps they should have fitted 5 glow plugs?

stick with a 200 mate, much easier to keep and a lot cheaper when they do go wrong!

yes the timing chain housing is the one. basically you need one from a later 3.9 engine, 1994 on which has a serpentine ancilliary belt as opposed to the older v belt arrangements. it would be easier to find an earlier cover with the cam driven oil pump but the cranks have a different nose...

if you do go 4.6 you will need a front cover and dizzy of an interim 3.9/4.2 with the crank driven oil pump (more reliable).

when i put an isuzu in a 300 disco i think it was a pretty good fit just with some v8 rubbers. 300 mounts on the chassis are just flat plates so perhaps a bit if 3" angle and some v8 rubbers might fit ok. I cant remember messing about with them so they must have been simple!
