if you really only want a car for basically road/lane use a diesel discovery is yer best bet. the classic series landrovers and the defenders are literally a tin box on wheels with no creature comforts.

taint worth delving into gearboxes, choice is used or recon , pay for fitting or struggle with heavy lumps of metal under yer landy. personally id pay someone with the proper gear to to it, its just so much easier with the car up on a ramp with the proper lifting gear for the box.,

if more people read the drivers manual and the workshop manual wed have far less peeps on here asking why one wheels spinning when theyve got their diffs locked on their disco , why they cant undo their viscous fan etc, most cars you dont need to read anything to drive them to the garage...

as i understand it its now illegal to market,sell or fit proper bull bars. if one was allready fitted when the law was introduced its still legal. how anyone can tell when a bullbar was fitted to an old vehicle is your loophole.

man up..... neighbours used to have an ex leccy board series 3 with a pto winch on the front bumper... that were noticably heavy on the steering but we just lived with it.

aint a pto winch shaft driven off the transfer box? if its got a hydraulic motor on the winch connected by 2 pipes to a pump its a hydraulic winch.

i can never understand why theres never an earth strap direct from the engine block to the battery neg, it would stop this earthing through the handbrake, which apears to be a peculiarity of landrovers, but also cure a lot of lazy starter motors aswell. what is the point of eathing the block...

before you do anything else to the engine check the condition of the cam belt.... even if it looks good enough to try and start the engine get it changed as soon as youve confirmed its a runner. second thing is change the oil, crack off the injector pipes fully so no diesel actually gets to the...

5 door ones recline , but the back dont tilt forward much past vertical , so backseat passenger wont be able to squeeze between door pillar and seatback..... less some skinny beggar knows different

if yer going to be carrying the ballast and kids about youre going to need either the 110 station wagon or a disco.... you get a lot more for your money with a disco.

ffs in the license regs theres no mention of brakes... or lack of. the confusion is coming from any trailer over 750kg has to have overrun brakes.... so cheapskate little trailer makers dont fit them on cost grounds..... martins post is as good as youll get.
