The drivers handbook for 2006MY refers to EU2/3. The gross vehicle weight for 2006MY V6 and td4 was increased from 2060/2080kg to 2505kg, I wonder if this was because the emmisions failed the under 2500kg catagory or tax band...

Original thermostat is rated at 88°C.

I ran mine with a 63ah 610cca Bosch Silver Top 027 for a while after my 096 battery died one winter 10 miles to work at 03:30 on a Monday, and back home on Friday night is its normal use, and the little battery didn't let me down. Have a Yuasa 85ah, 800cca 110 battery in now.

That could be the dosing pump for the FBH, also known as a "tick-tick" pump.

Some cars are fitted with both a PTC and an FBH;)

The purple and black wires are for an accessory socket that can be fitted to the back of the center console/cubby. It has its own fuse and relay and rated higher than the cig lighter socket.

I've done a couple of thermostats and a pump and I don't think it's that bad to do. As a stand alone job it takes a bit of time, but if it's done when doing a service then it doesn't add too much.

Genuine BMW stats are about £30 from Island 4x4 and open at 88C, and there is a Rover 75/ MG specialist making them that open at 92C for about the same price.

The water pump/thermostat assembly can be removed as one unit, I found it easier than removing just the stat. The pump is held on with allen headed bolts if I remember correctly.

The hole is where a clip fits that holds the pipes for the FBH.

Wheel arch liner clips are 20 for £4 on ebay. 5 point Torx security bit sets under a tenner. I think the yellow thing you mean is on a bracket fitted to the top engine mount, but I haven't found a part number for it yet.

You can get pcd/center bore adaptors, but they will be at least 20mm thick. http://www.superforma.co.uk/pcd-adapters/pcd-adaptor-7895.html I would be wary about how they fit against the brake discs though.

If you've tested across the two pins on the plug that proves there is an earth connection, I thought you may have earthed your test meter direct to the body or an earth point. Are you sure the plug is making proper contacts with the motor, possibly rig up a bit of bridging wire to test in the...

Have you checked for continuity/resistance to earth from the plug using your multimeter?

Positions 1-3 on the switch feed voltage to the fan motor through the resistor pack. Position 4 operates a relay that feeds the motor direct.
