Hi,
This morning i've managed to fix one problem and cause another!
I had to fix a split pipe which meant that I had to take off the plastic engine cover. I got two bolts off but one of them (top left just above the cam chain) I couldn't get off. This wasn't a problem as I managed to swivel it round to get access to the pipe I needed to fix. However.... one big gust of wind lifted the plastic engine cover and managed to snap it off the plastic screw housing (i think of the rocker cover?) below which has now left a half inch hole exposing the top of the cam chain! I'm no engine expert but the cover with the hole in goes full length of the engine.
Can I glue the piece of plastic that has snapped off back on? Obviously oil will just kick out if the engine is started.
Good news is the split pipe is fixed!

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I need my car for work!

Glue will work in the short term. But you'll need a replacement cam cover to guarantee a permanent fix. ;)

I don't suppose you have a rough idea of how much that might cost me if I took it to a local garage to get it repaired do you?

Hi Paul.
It will not be cheap as all the injectors have to be removed to replace the cam cover, they will most likely charge you at least a couple of hours work, you will also need a new or good used cam cover, minimum overall I would say £120 it is a job you could do yourself though, good luck Arctic
 
Second hand would be the cheapest option. However this kind of plastic is garbage and gets brittle with age. So lots of chemical metal or epoxy may be the way to go. ;)
 
I happen to have a good used cam cover just lying around. Much cheaper than a new one. PM me if you're interested.

What kind of price are you looking at for it? I've glued it at the moment (Gorilla glue!) and it's held for the last 3 days but not got much hope it lasting much longer!
