I love the sound of the V8's. Just spoke to a good mate of mine who has a really nice defender and he said get a 300tdi! Makes me want a V8 more when someone says "don't get one"

Did you fit your own Megasquirt or get someone to fit it? How much would I be looking at for a Megasquirt kit?

Thanks for all your comments, very interesting. I think I will look for a V8, esp after reading what Mainlander said. I will probably look for a 3.5 V8 manual. Auto just doesn't float my boat! Also probably avoid water at all cost! The Megasquirt looks complicated, I'm a proper novice...
