At least with a S3 & earlier you can access the heater without stripping out the entire dash, unlike most cars.

Overcoming 'fiddly' can be lucrative. My one-time indie worked out ways of accomplishing certain tasks that officially required the body lifting. He was not only inventive but had small hands .. true he went through a good few sticky plasters, but the rewards more than balanced out the pain ;)

Just a comment, 10w40 is not the best for an old RV8 despite what some books might say. 20w50 mineral oil with high levels of zddp (zinc) as the engine is of flat tappet design.

Comment probably applies to any modern car, all disposable just that some cost more than others. LR lost the plot decades ago, but to be fair they have to design/build what the market demands in order to stay in business. Q. if JLR built a 'real' LR now how many would find buyers? A. just old...

Never come across a 'fuel trap' despite owning four RRC's but then they have all been EFI I have also owned a late 2.6 LR but that didn't have such a device, so I'm curious as to it's function.

A sad reflection of the brand, but probably true of any RR made after the Classic era. Any vehicle can suffer an unexpected breakdown & for that eventuality I have breakdown/recovery cover, but the thought of starting a journey lacking confidence in my vehicle's ability to get me back home .. o_O

Not just Jag, my old BMW has the same scary gauge design though I can read the actual temp if I'm prepared to mess about pressing buttons on the computer.

Should the unit not work Clarion claim to be able to service any product they have ever made. or at least they could several years ago when they overhauled the original radio/tape player in my '87 Vogue.

I'm pretty sure my old RRC cig. lighters (F & R) are also ign. live, not permanent. Something to do with the safety of inquisitive kids if they are left in the car?
