Take the seat out, take the lid off the BECM and check for condensation. With the seat out, you can check all connectors. There is no indication from what you say that the BECM is locked out but of course I could be wrong. You need to look...

I'd get the key/s sorted first before writing the becm off. You need a functioning key either way and then go from there👍

I'll have to buy some more O rings then! Bubbles at the dryer were only seen when the compressor was running. Once it went off there were none. Even with it running they were very small bubbles, small enough to make a foam around the top...

Tank leak will usually be NRV-1. With the system off, air leaking through NRV-1 will pass through the dryer, and lift the diaphragm, hence inflating the balloon (path of least resistance). Some of this air can also escape via the dryer seals &...

If the car is an auto, it will in due course knacker the gearbox as effectively nullifies the torque reduction required on gear shifts to protect the clutches. Plenty of ooomph in the M51 if it's running well IMO.

There are 3 NRV's. If one is bad, best do all 3 IMO. More likely to be the diaphragm I would think. A new dryer is not that expensive.

Pull the exhaust filter from the block and put your finger over it. Make sure a door is open so the system is isolated. Hold your finger for a while and monitor any air loss👍

Try a jump lead from the negative battery post to engine and supply a direct earth. If you can have the starter checked over to rule it out. 🤔

Having gone balls-deep into the engine there's no way I would risk using head-bolts unless it was a scrapper. Or the camshaft one. Seems they put these bolts where they know you won't risk it!
