Agree with this but I do tend to use a torque wrench if I am at all worried. They can be a sod to undo and as they are a star jobbie it is too easy to strip the hole, making next time you want to do it an absolute sod.

You can get a basic multimeter that does most things including diodes and temp, very cheap, what puts the prices up I think is the addition of other stuff, like capacitance, for which I have just bought a separate one for €22.

I used to have 3 of these on my desk.. But at £17,000 each they might be out of your pocket.. Practically any £30 digital meter will do what you want.
