Electrical issues with courtesy and dashboard lights

Just had a look again, is that the start conversation option?

Electrical issues with courtesy and dashboard lights

Thanks will have a double check later. Think it’s just passenger side that gets wet. I cleaned the white connectors at bottom of pillar as they were slightly corroded. I was hoping you might comment Datatek as I couldn’t figure out how to message you directly regarding the electric fan mod I’ve...

Electrical issues with courtesy and dashboard lights

Apologies yes. 1995 P38 DSE. So many things have been bodged or left broken on this thing it’s quite interesting to work on at the minute. Thought the cluster backlights worked fine but turns out the bulb holders have been butchered and wired into the sidelights! Don’t know if a failed dimmer...

Electrical issues with courtesy and dashboard lights

Hi all, Working my way through my list of issues slowly! I’ve spent some time searching and Rave-ing for info so apologies if I’ve missed something obvious. I have two electrical issues that I am looking into at the minute and I would appreciate any knowledge or advice that can be shared...

    P38 2.5 DSE Cut out

I ran a few 1.7 and 2.5 TDS BMWs with chips and bleed valves increasing the boost a bit for years with no issues. Granted the the RR is considerably weightier so more load on it etc!

Once the running and driving issues are sorted I’ll chip it and increase the boost a touch if I keep it.

    P38 2.5 DSE Cut out

This one is manual. I don’t think it’s much slower than it should be, if at all, because it runs quite well when driving. I know I’ve got in tank pump issues but haven’t got to glow plugs yet due to the large list of issues. Fairly certain there’s some chain stretch involved so I’m going to move...

Touch wood, it has been running fine for the for the few trips it has done to and from work. Apart from being a tad slow, handling like crap, not liking starting up and bits falling off inside and outside while driving along that is!

    P38 2.5 DSE Cut out

Well arranged recovery this morning. Thought I’d give her a try and she fired up but cut out after 30 secs with a reappearance of the injector light. Same fault stored. Decided to look at the fuel pump connector, turns out it had a tuning box fitted, and both connectors at pump and engine loom...

    P38 2.5 DSE Cut out

Understood. Is similar as to what I’m thinking of on common rail. I’ll stop bothering everyone until I get it home and can take a better look. I’ll try and have another read through Rave info in the meantime.

From memory it had quarter of a tank. I thought of that initially but didn’t think that would be possible to bring the light on constantly and have a constant fault code.

I don’t but I am close ish to two LR specialists although unlikely to get it there without it running. Quantity servo is presumably like pressure regulator/suction valve if replaced on more modern common rail pumps that control the fuel flow?

    P38 2.5 DSE Cut out

Yes it certainly. Me being me that’s part of the appeal but I didn’t anticipate/want to start with a fault like this! Should know better by now. Sadly for what it owes me, it may well be a sell off the good bits and ditch the rest if it looks too expensive to get it running again. Once I can get...

Is there a specific diagnostics available cheaply if a generic Snap-On scanner isn’t accurate? For example I have had INPA BMW diagnostics for circa £30. Ah thought that might be the case. Couldn’t remember my old TDS BMW having glow plugs when warm.

Thank you! I knew it was a silly bit and it proved me right quickly. Mileage is around 150k from memory. There was diesel residue all down the pump side of the engine from where the owner and his mate had tried getting it started unsuccessfully. Once I got it running it was pretty sweet and...
