All the axle and suspension parts are now painted, dry and stored. All of the rusty bits have been dropped off at the blasters, in the meantime it’s bodywork fetteling oh how I have missed weeks of straightening panels and endless DAing 😔 on the...
A bloody fiddly job. Angles, twists and tiny pieces. You can see that the crossmember is supposed to be sandwiched between inner and outer skin. I wonder how many actually do this as you have to chop off a bit more than you’d want to. My pencil...
After Empire tuning had my new crank pulley delivered in record time I set about changing it. Not actually a bad job really!
I did have to make a tool to lock the crank pully in place, eas enough to do. Put it in low range 5th for good measure...
So where did you put the fluid?
In which oil did you add the UV dye?
Cos I am pretty sure you wouldnt have put it in the transfer box or gearbox first 🤔.

Don't normally believe most of the hacks you see on the net but saw similar on a well known site so gave it a go before buying new lamps.
Wipac crystals. Bit of tooth paste on the wifes washing up sponge and a minute or two of roundy roundy...
Centraising really easy so you get even turns left and right.
Pull plastic plug out of the thing that sticks out of floor where left hand dive column would go, sick a drill bit in the hole and turn steering till drill bit locates the hole in the...
I did think about doing that, BUT... however it had been set up already had it driving without wandering etc. and the tracking seems fine. There was just 10-15 degrees of free play in that socket. So, I decided to let sleeping dogs lie and...
Received the "Used Good" steering column inner shaft just before lunch.
I think "used good" is Swahili for "rusted to feck but might be OK".
Anyway, I spent an hour or more removing the worst of the corrosion and as the splines on both ends...
For planning I use TW2, but check, some marked UCR are actually not according to the council maps. Councils will have a definitive map often online even if not particularly up to date, and a Highways map the highways map will list all the UCR on...
Engine crane…decent set of tools…Haynes manual…Land Rover forum to ask questions…good safety practices…careful sourcing of quality parts…bit of common sense…nothing you and your lad couldn’t do. I’d get stuck in if I were you guys…git some!
In my experience as a slovenly mechanic, anyone helping who is not a mechanic will actually slow the job down significantly, so getting it cheaper might not be as simple as you think.
When the boss decides to help me by removing stuff, it always...
it should mist into the air filter for burning back through the engine. Now if you have loads in the bottle after a few days that’s where your problem is.
The pipe should mist/breath from sump to crankcase so should not dump loads of oil...
Meaning leave a bottle on it with some tape / ties?
I’ve cleaned the top of the engine 3/4 weeks ago and it hasn’t gotten any dirtier.
I’ll give the underside a spray with some cleaner and give it a jet wash at the local garage. 👌🏻
I bought one of them torque wrenches with a pointer on it, whatever they are called.
Bracket is on the injection pump.
Maybe it will become more obvious when I strip it out.
@s8ndst0rm
Put the end of that pipe into a bottle for a week & see how much oil is relesesd.( this pipe should not vent into the air. It should be onto the air filter)
Clean the engine as well.
I'd do a bit of homework on leboncoin to give you an idea of it's value and then decide from there. You can sell it without a c.t just make it clear before the sale. Good luck in your choice, it's a nice car😎👍
Started the rear roof cut. Now riveted into place. Just have a few nuts/bolts to find for the hinges(don’t trust the pop rivets on the original design)
Metal cutting next weekend.
After this mornings fun I have made a list of jobs I caused...
The old roof had front damage so moved the front rib.
This one I’m removing the rear rib. All the brackets etc are attached so makes my life easier.
And as a bonus it has a enclosed rear flap, removed the old mesh style so have a spare
Joy of joys. Thought Id take the 110 out for a a bit, got all of 10 meters before I heard an unsettling slapping noise...
And the crank pulley is seconds away from letting go 😮💨😮💨
So need to replace that now 😒
On the hand made another...
Problem sorted. Thanks for all the help.
In case anyone else has a similar problem :-
Removed the relay, checked the pin from the ignition switch/ecu, 0V with ignition off, 12V with ignition on so working correctly. Took the plastic cover off...
