I am hoping that someone on the forum may be able to help me.

I have the dreaded battery drain problem so bought a new rf receiver from a LR parts supplier.

It arrived, I fitted it and it didn't work. Supplier said that it needed programming on a LR computer.
Tried to book it into my local indie who has fitted dozens of these and he said it's plug and play but I might need to resynch the keyfob. Tried that and it didn't work.
The same story from my main dealer, LR customer services and all the forums.
I concluded that the part was faulty but the supplier didn't want to refund until they had had the part checked by LR.

So I bought a another new one from my indie thinking I would fit it, it would work proving that the first one was definitely faulty, I'd then get a refund and life would be good.

Fitted the new one in the indies yard and it didn't work!!! They tested it in another P38 and it worked fine!! They refitted it to mine, plugged it into their computer, checked wiring, etc and no matter what they did it still wouldn't work (it did work a couple of times but then wouldn't). They rechecked it in another vehicle again and it worked fine.
Finally refitted my original receiver which works. At this point they had run out of ideas and couldn't understand why it didn't work.

So WTF is going on???? Has anyone else had this problem.

Should just plug n play may need a FOB re sync but that's all.
Sounds like an electrical connection problem, corroded connectors maybe.

I've ordered a new meter and I'll measure continuity to the BeCM when it arrives.

Is there any way of measuring the signal coming out of the receiver?

Only with a oscilloscope, but it's not really necessary as you know the receiver is good if it works in another car.
Check the carpets in the drivers footwell for damp, check the connectors for corrosion on the BECM using RAVE.

Sorry for the delay; work eh!!

I've cleaned all the BECM connectors with contact cleaner.

The original receiver works fine.

Measured voltages to ground on the pins inside the receiver (original)
Live = 12.6 volts
Earth = 0 volts
Signal = 10.5 volts
Pressed the key fob and the signal went down to ca. 9 volts then back up to 10.5 (and the doors locked/unlocked)

Fitted the new one and got the same voltages except when I pressed the fob no change.
Re-synched the key fob and measured again with the same result.

Fitted the second new on and got the same results as the first new one.

The only conclusion I can come to is that even though a new one worked on another vehicle neither of them works now.

maybe the battery drain is something else, have you checked the Becm goose to sleep? the old rf might possibly be American and work on a lower frequency and so the remote may also run on a lower frequency and by replacing the rf box the remotes will never see the new frequency. I believe someone was selling American key fobs on flebay a while back cheap. its worth thinking about as everything else has failed.

aften build the new Ywy500170, have a litter patience with it, let the computer to read it for a hour ,, of three hour before you use it , that should not been a problem after

Your RF receiver is good but it doesn't work the door locks in your car?

It maybe switched off.

I have done this in mine to stop fro ever the locks burning out!
