Just fitted winch and bumper to my 90 It originally had spot lights fitted to the A frame. Unfortunately the spots won't fit on the attached brackets due to the winch. I was thinking of getting a bracket welded to the top of the A frame to get a bit more height but this would possibly push the spots out further than the front of the bumper. Does this then become illegal? Spots protruding further forward than the bumper?

I may have to go with smaller spots, don't really want to as I like the sort of Iridescent effect of the spotlights i have.
Might resort to a chat with the local MOT chap see what his take on it is?

If you mount them on a roof bar and use it for green laning, might I suggest mounting them below the bar .. I use a small bracket to space them away enough ..

Keeps them a little safer from being whacked by the foliage.

LED's ... not fitted properly yet, just bodged together for an evening ..

I have a roof bar with LED spots on it but can't use them on the road so still want to add my spots to the A Bar for road driving.

I thought (read somewhere) it was illegal have them come on with the main beam?
I have a 3 position switch, Off (for the MOT), On with main beam or on constant.

My MOT test mate says that it's fine for lights between the two head lights. But above or below too much and it'd fail if they come on when you switch on full beam!

Thats what I thought I read somewhere, hence why i have mine on the switch

Still not sure about them protruding beyond the front of the bumper tho

Oh god not this again! I don't know how many times the regs have been dragged up but do a search.

There is no height restriction for auxiliary headlights and so long as they're switched to turn off when dipping headlights conform to lighting regs for road use.

They need to be matched pairs set an equal distance from the centre.

Regs for fog lights are different and sometimes confuse people

As BB said .. auxiliary lights cannot come on with dipped lights, but can only be used with high beam when on the road.

A roof bar is an excellent bit of kit, gives better light projection for spots and it's easy, as can be seen in my pics, to angle outer spots to the sides for laning at night, when you need to see a few yards to the side for a sharp turn.

Roof mounted spots also give a better indication of the lie of the land, being lit roughly from eye level they give improved definition of large holes and humps 'n bumps. In my case the roof bar is also a good location for the CB, giving it and the radio aerial a lot of protection.

Are the LED lights on your roof any good? I was thinking of changing my small spots on my a bar for one of those units. But not sure if the light spread won't be as good?

Heheheh, oh yes ..

Top is normal dipped beam, middle is spots and high beam, bottom is what others see ..

I bought the pair so I could angle them out a tad more 'cos I like to see when I turn in the woods at night. Dunno if it's necessary mind ..
