Hi

I have a 2001 Discovery TD5 Automatic that does my head in as it's all rev's and no go :mad: and am thinking of chipping it but the problem is that I live in France.

I have been looking on e-blag and one guy reckons he can sell me a chipped ECU for an automatic that will chuck out 175 bhp £440 snakes !

Dodgy ? or not ?

Been reading about all you lucky bastides that just pop round to "Bob the man that can" to have a personal tune done for you that absolutely transforms yeh motor but it's just not possible here :mad:
 
The problem with just chipping an auto is indeed more power but that just leads to even more revs ,what is needed is the uprated ashcroft torque converter that transferes more off the available power at lower revs then get it chipped.

I can see where you are coming from engineer but I have'nt got the dosh to do that!

From what I've heard the extra torque after being chipped stops the autobox dropping a gear when you put your boot down and revving it's tits off !

I did have my TD5 auto remapped by Mike @ Dynachip and it did make a great improvement, but they still do need the uprated torque converter imo.

The question really is: which do I do first?

Oh dam! your first re-map thread realy sold it to me "Biglad" :rolleyes: Is there another thread then where it goes down hill ?

Hi Jason, there seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding here.

The remap makes the engine more powerful and more gutsy, no doubt about it. The problem is that the TC as std from the factory is just not good enough.

So, a bit like a manual box car with a slipping clutch, the autobox will still have a tendency to "over-rev", until you are in TC lock-up at approx 52mph. After that you get the full benefits of the remap, so higher speed cruising is eeeeeezy, long motorway hills a breeze so long as you keep your speed above 60mph.

When towing in more demanding terrain, I used '3' alot because you get TC lock-up at 48mph in 3.

But when you drive a TD5 with a modified TC you just know this is how they should have been, from new, that's all.

This makes perfect sense to me, I have just bought my first Land Rover, a low mileage Discovery 2 and I love it, but it is just plain weird to drive, loads of revs and nothing actually happening. Even my wife commented on it and she has no interest in cars. It's an Auto.

So can anyone suggest a reputable company that can fit the Ashcroft TC and Remap in one job. I am located in Bristol but I am happy to travel to get a good job done.
