Hello everybody the xyz switch has started playing up on my 98 rr dse and looking at the price of new part I thought I would have a look on eBay I found one for 99-01 rr dse so I ended up winning it for £20 thought it was worth a punt . I've had a look at the one on mine and it look the same to me but is it ? Will it work ? And if I fit it to see will it mess anything else up ......

What the frigg is the XYZ switch?? (im having a thick moment) :confused::D

The electrical part of the auto select. As you move the stick you can see plates moving, these operate switches. I'm not sure about the Z but X is one direction and Y is the other. Do you remember doing graphs at school or looking at an oscilloscope screen?

In aircraft production XYZ are used as datum measuring points. X being the longditudal axis. Y being the vertical axis and Z being the lateral axis.
 
Not sure if I've got the right part now is it the plates that move near the stick or is it the little part that fits on the gear box ? I thought it was the part near the gearbox ??? Can the plate things near the stick go wrong and what would I need to look for ........ One thing after the next

The plates that move near the stick just blank off the gate as the stick is moved into it's various positions. It's the switch on the box that is important. It has to be adjusted correctly though. I suppose it depends what your problem was.
 
It show it is in r when it is in p and won't go into 1st . I have took it back to the place that fitted the new gearbox and they said they tried to adjust it but it won't work and said that it was xyz switch and that's the last I have heard from them .....

Well now we have full story. You had a box fitted. If selection was ok before it should still be ok now. Was it a new box or second hand one?
 
both cable and xyz switch need to be set cable first it ,but make sure cable is sat in clamp further back correctly first then cable adjusts so that park and 1 can be selected ,jacking one side wheels up helps so you can feel park when rotating wheel ,then set switch which has slotted holes so that display matches gear selected

Dual mass flywheels are the work of the devil (or would be if there was one). LUK invented them to serve no useful purpose but to line their share holders pockets. Most useless abortion of an object ever fitted to a motor vehicle.
