Hello,

I whipped the breather pipe of my 200tdi today (between air filter and cyclone unit) and about four thimbles full of CLEAR water ran out :eek: I had a problem with water in the cyclone before, which was causing mayo, but nothing this bad. Where the hell is it coming from? I'm not using or loosing any coolant, and my HG isn't shot. I can only see it being condensation, but would it really be that much and what could be causing it? I've temporarily removed the breather pipe so that it doesn't suck any water into the cylinders, which it will no doubt already have done? Can I get away with any amount of water being drawn into the TDi what with the cavity in the piston crowns preventing it from creating a hydraulic lock?

I will pressure test the cylinders tomorrow. Does anybody know what psi they should be (Disco tdi)?

Have you been doing a lot of short journeys in this cold weather? If so its probably condensation building up as the engine wont be getting hot enough to evaporate it off.
 
Easy way to find out -taste it (don't drink it)- if it tastes like water then it's mos likely condensation, if it tastes of diesel/ antifreeze (I'm not going to say anymore)
 
I did taste it :D It was just like water. I thought it was purely a condensation problem but I just waned to double check. I have been using it for short runs at the moment (to work and back) and it hasn't heated up on a single journey. In fact, the thermostat has been stuck open (which I'm swapping tomorrow) which has prevented it from heating up much at all. I'm expecting it'll be alright following that and a good blast. Cheers.
