I finally got round to fitting the TD5 heater in my 300TDI today. Blimey what a difference, once the engine was up to heat it was unbelievably warm. Happy days!

Next on the list of jobs to do is to fit the rear wiper motor. I noticed that the rear wiper arm has been jammed against the spare wheel, I'm fairly sure this is what's buggered the original motor. I think I will just replace the spare alloy on the back as the tyre is quite wide, I have an old steel wheel which I will replace it with. :)

You can get spacers for the spare wheel carrier. If you have alloys on the carrier it needs spacing.

Think I'm the only one out there with a working heater in my 300!

So wahts the story here then ? It work just cause its all sealed up and adjusted right ? Looks the same as my 19j box !

Mines got a new matrix in but not sealed very well...it wil be fore i stick it back in though :)

Ah fab.... James you don't have a link do you please!

My old 300 heater was great, I even had to turn it down at times

Show off :p

Actually so do I know :D

Yup...To be honest I just spent a bit of time ensuring everything was sealed and adjusted correctly. It's made an enormous difference!!

I've actually removed the old 300TDI and fixed the motor and I stalked a new radiator so I now have a spare too. :)

How did you attach the cable in the end? not done this one yet

It was a doddle matey, I used one of those circle crimps. I fed the wire through and then crimped it as firmly as I could. I then wound the wire that I had fed through around the outside of the crimp and covered it in solder. It's a solid connection matey!
These ones should do it

Spare Wheel Carrier Alloy Wheel Spacers £13.50 - MANTEC - Wheel Carriers Flatdog UK

They may be cheaper elsewhere, but you get the idea

Cheers kind sir. :D

Landyfox, I had same problem with rear wiper motor burnt out. Rubs inside of spare wheel, 265/75/16 with alloys. Used one old steel nut with about 40mm diameter washer backed up to wheel for larger bearing area. Gives 5mm+ clearance.

Cheers mate I'll do that. :)

Had a similar problem on my 1996 90 300 TDi with the rear wiper arm fouling the spare tyre but perhaps the biggest issue was that I couldn't get my hand in the gap to operate the rear door latch.

The vehicle was already fitted with similar (as shown) threaded adjusters but in order to provide adequate clearance for my hand these had to be positioned almost on the edge of the carrier threads. This meant that the securing wheel nuts would not engage. In the end I turned the spare wheel around to face the wrong way and although the securing nuts don't fit the hole properly, nothing untoward has happened in 12 months of use.
