the sensor is fubar? have a look and and see if its in the right place? there (on most cars) in the bumper, if its come off and snagged nr the radiator then that could be the problem, check it out and if it has come lose pop it back in to where it should be, im guessing its just a push fit
Sensor is booogered, depending on what year P38 you have you will either find the outside air temp sensor behind the bumper OR you will see it by removing the passenger side pollen filter cover.
You can quite easily see the sensor if its the one behind the bumper, get onto the floor and look through the lower grill in the bumper and it will look like a little black stick.
Looked under car but cant see it, so I looked behind the passenger pollen filter,
dug out the leaves and filter but could not it there either.
I need to replace the gause on the grille below the screen
Is the sensor tucked away or should I be able to see it?
hmmm, have another look in the pollen filter chamber. Pull the cover, remove the filter and have a good look around in there with a torch, it should be visible.
Slight problem is I don't know whether you will be able to get a new sensor. LR moved the sensor in later vehicles and provided a kit to move the old sensors to the new position so you may not be able to get hold of the old type of sensor. LR have a habit of superseding old parts with newer 'improved' parts (as ive found out on a few occasions now) and as such you may only be able to get the new sensor part which would mean you would need the kit as well.
Ill have a look at the catalogue later and see what I can see.
Have a look at Rave its in the Air Con section 82, you should be able to see like a pencil type of sensor protruding out of the side? turn the sensor anti clock wise, and it should come out
