Hi

I recently bought my first Land Rover a 95M, 300tdi with 155k miles. The clutch biting point is at the very top of the pedal travel… does this always mean that a new clutch is needed? The gear box always changes smoothly and with very little effort. The clutch does not slip.

Assuming a replacement clutch is needed, how much should I expect to pay for parts and labour?

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in Hertfordshire?

£60-£70 clutch kit £10 h/d release fork £200-£300 labour

Do you think I can do better? Anymore suggestions?

Just the parts cost if you do it yourself-not too bad a job,just take time-I did it box out on a trolley jack-but an engine crane seems seems even better-others prefer to take engine off box.

I have considered doing it myself... problem is time. For the next four weeks the disco is my only car (I have a new DS3 on order) and need it for work. If I attempt to replace the clutch and hit difficulties then I'll be stuck with a dead disco on my drive and no transport. Also I am paranoid about asbestos dust from the worn clutch.

Fairly easy job, not alot can go wrong really, easy do it in a day

Took me and my bro 8 hours approx, and that included taking flywheel off to replace rear main seal.

Lots of heavy lifting and struggling, but by no means a difficult job. There's so much room to work under old land rovers that every job is easy tbh...
