When starting an engine for the first time it's wise to remove fuel pump fuse (or stop the injectors firing by unplugging them) and remove the sparkplugs to take the compression load off the big-end bearings, then turn the engine over until the oil pressure light goes out (plus 2-3 seconds for good measure). refit plugs, reconnect FP fuse and you know there will be oil pressure from the word go.

And remember if its a new cam you have to run it at 2000 rpm for 20 mins don't let it idle. Sounds wrong to do that on a fresh engine but must be done have a helper watch over for any fuel, oil ,leaks etc good luck

Sorry to disappoint but when I got home no new battery so have cranked it on the old one but it doesnt turn over enough for my liking I will fire her up tomorrow after replacing battery best safe than sorry will keep everyone posted and it is chuffing freezing out there
Thanks again for all the support would never have made it without it

I can relate! However I wish I had a 2000+ one. The V8 sound on these models are much better than on my 95!

:D:D:D:D Top Job - well done Sandyt another one brought back from the brink!

Right gents maybe my euphoria was ill founded I seem to be producing white smoke and loosing coolant now I suspect the orings are gone as there is a reasonable amount of water in the drivers footwell which I shall resolve tomorrow morning question is the engine is running very smooth and so far I have only run it for about 20 mins in total could it be condensation as the tanks both petrol and lpg are only a quarter full and it has been standing for a year or do I have a hgf there is no pressurisation and the oil is crystal clear ?
Interested in any ideas

New Fuel or year old fuel - petrol is only really good for a few weeks.....

White smoke at this time of year is to be expected, and is probaly only condensation in the exhaust.....whip out the plugs and check condition, if they look like they have been washed clean, it could be water in there....but I would keep an eye on the oil condition for traces of water....

Sort your O rings before it kills the BeCM

Yes will do plan to do them tomorrow will get it to a petrol station next week and fill up with new fuel and if the worst comes to the worst it will only be the heads not a complete rebuild;)

Afternoon well got into o rings this afternoon once I had a proper look in daylight and that was an odd experience as I did most of this at night with lights - there was a drip a steady drip from the oring so dismantled and put new orings on and there was a drip now I am wondering if I should put both sets of orings on the old ones were in really good shape which made me wonder if the clamp had never been tightened up any ideas please oh and the bottom seal on the rad is suspect so will put another new one on and lastly ran her all day whilst I was doing bits and pieces and temp stayed absolutely dead centre and she is running very nicely indeed
