I am currently doing a nut and bolt rebuild on a galvanised 30tdi chassis, I will have running gear and engine of 300tdi I have a puma dash I want to use with puma heating system, do I get a 300 to or td5 chassis loom and again a tdi td5 or puma bulkhead loom? I want all the buttons on the centre dash to work, I will he making a speedo clock/rev counter out of tdi clocks

Are you looking at using a TD5 or TDI warning panel? TDI clocks (mechanical speedo / fuel / temp) only need basic 12v supplies for lighting and gauges so should be easy to sort wiring for which ever route you choose (just need to put up with poor back lighting as standard). If you go TD5 warning panel etc (LED rather than bulbs) then things get a bit more complex for things like fuel warning light (I think it is fed from the TD5 electronic speedo). Also need to consider your knowledge of electrics and hand skills if you need to re-terminate connectors etc.

I was considering some sort of aftermarket dials where possible, I know an auto electrician so any help he can give me will probably come at a price so I just want to know what would be the best basis to start off td5 or tdi loom, I will try turn my hand at anything and the fact that the 300tdi is pretty basic to start with?

Not that I've seen Puma dash wiring but I would consider getting the loom to match the warning panel (TD5/TDI) you choose to use as that is probably the fiddliest bit to sort out. Which ever one you use there will probably be an element of rewiring required anyway, hopefully someone who has done this already will chip in.

If you are using a TD5 dash use a TD5 loom the differences backwards are easily sorted but the differences from TDi to TD5 and more complicated although quite sortable. I've just fitted TD5 clocks to my TDi so I know :D

... and if you are using PUMA heater then making the changes for that should be simple enough. I would ask the loom maker to do that for you at the time, there will no doubt be a charge but probably the best way to go.

Any links to a loom maker? I'm fitting a puma dash with custom clock set up using td5 clocks, figured td5 bulkhead loom would plug Into puma dash like hazard warning lights fog lights etc?

No links as it is the kind of thing I would work out and do myself. If you are using PUMA switches, TD5 clocks and TDi vehicle it is definitely one for the loom maker as the switches are likely different. You might also find tha the actual ancillaries are different and require different switching which might cause you to have to do something clever in between the new switch and the component....

Yeh I seen autosparks, if I was doing standard equipment I was going to buy there standard 300tdi loom, seen a complete td5 loom on ebay, might give that a shot and buy the warning light label separate then work my way through it, ill see what a custom loom will cost but I can't see it being cheap!
