Hi Guys.
Well i've finally got the engine in and now i'm trying to sort all the electrics that the previous owner hashed up. Literally.. nothing worked before i started on engine and still now after its in. I have however sorted some, Just need a little guidance on a few things if anyone can help.
This is a discovery 300tdi conversion into defender 90 G reg.

I have taken a few photo's of things that are baffling me.

1st up:
Does anyone know what this wire that comes out from behind passenger headlight near oil intercooler is for!! Just sat there but nothing nearby to hook up to so no idea what it was there for.

2nd up:
One of the main problems i'm having now is that there is absolutely no power through heater fan and this is something i have never encountered before so am not sure where to start looking.
I will take the dash apart tomorrow to see if there is any issue behind but before i do that... i have noticed there are 2 wires above the heater module that look like they should be connected to something:
You can see the in the middle of pic

Can anyone tell me what they are and should be connected to!!

3rd up:
This is pretty obviously broken and i'm guessing that it is some kind of pump or sensor for water level and as there are 2 of them, 1 must be for front and one for rear.. but which is which and what is its proper name so i can source a new one?

Next question, although no pic as forgot

There is a double pin (plug type) sensor in the top middle of engine in section next to rocker cover. Any idea what that does?

Tomorrows task is to try and get interior lights working and heater system.
This thing really was butchered by previous owner and apart from the engine having blown up instantly, there are plenty more problems inside.
I expect there will be a few more HELP THREADS to come.

Thanks guys.

3rd up are the screen washer pumps. The difference between front and back (amongst other things) is that the rear washer hose (blue pipe) goes up the passenger side A post, along the inside of the roof and across to the black plastic water delivery spigot above the back door.

Pump probably part number ADU 3905
Hoping tha the 1st up and 2nd up are part of the original loom, the colours (with / without) stripe has meaning.

For example is the 1st up pure purple?

see also http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/cms/files/colour_code_for_vehicle_wiring_-_new_order_2.pdf
(other colour guides are available, and may help)

Good luck too

Thanks skint.
Yeh that wire is pure purple in the 1st.
Thanks for the heads up on the washer pumps. It is the rear one with blue pipe that's broken so will have a look out for a new now i know what it is. Pitty i have no wiper at the back (at the moment).
Come to think of it, the rear window looks to be electric but i'll bet even that's not working as nothing else is.

Cheers for the link and help.

Oh, the wires from the heater blower (on the circuit diagram that I have) from the dash switch are Green with Yellow tracer colour and Green with Slate tracer.

If the 2no cables in 2nd up are not this colour, then probably nothing to do with the fan.

..and could be part of a standard loom with no use at all in your model as it exited the assembly line.

Oh, forgot, check out the washer pump grommets which may need replacing (did on mine) my part number was RTC 3959.

(But check part numbers from a reliable source):)

Horn, nice one... don't have one of them either so that will explain that lol. another thing to find now.
Thanks wangie.

Cheers for the wire colours skint. Will have a good gander at them tomorrow.
Any idea where the connection into the heater module would be located?

Thanks.

yeh, see that James.
That's looking like all connected correctly but will be able to see more when i take unit out i guess.
Any other direction anyone can point me in on this one as fault finding etc.

Thanks James.

heater fuse often blows ,wires come off switch behind dash ,check you have power to that plug when switch is on ,does motor turn by hand they can seize ,temp sensor on head isnt needed

James... when you refer to switch, do you mean the pull down/up lever, or is there a switch somewhere to turn the fan on.
Havn't seen one!!

Thanks for pointers. Need these for fault finding on it. Very useful.

Right, will have a look for that.
Don't suppose anyone has a pick of this so i know what i'm looking for.
Knowing the way this things been, its not even there.

Just thought of something additional.
On my transit vans you have to wait for an engine heater light to go out before firing up (glow plus i think).
No such thing on my landy from what i can tell. Should it be the choke symbol that does this, as it doesn't.
Just another thing on the list.

Ahh, i see now. There are wiring connectors behind the levers.
Will have that off tomorrow for sure. All the levers on this are stiffer than my... knees lol, so need a bit of loosening up anyhow's.

Cheers.

Well guys, a little update and, yes..more advice needed.
Main aim of the day was trying to get heater blower, interior light and horn working.
Firstly.. no horn. Had to go get one of a scrapper.
2nd..Interior light... sorted. Wires had been cut whilst crudely scotch locking to god knows what as other wore was hanging bare.
3rd... Bleedin heater.
Had some probs with this. All wires were connected to switch ok. Cleaned them up etc and tested but no live to any of them. Not sure if that's normal but seems wrong.
Went to plugs under bonnet leading into heater matrix and i do have 1 out of the 3 showing a live. I know one is earth and the other i'm really not sure about but nothing through it anyhow.
Set to with trying to remove the whole heater housing... what a pain in the bum. Finally got it out and got down to this:
IMG_1260.jpg

Now, the fan part is moving freely with no resistance what so ever and i have connected a live and earth to the wires that you can see in pic.... nothing, not even a click.
I'm taking it therefore that the motor is knackered.

Would i be right in this presumption????

If so... anyone got one lol.

Also whilst taking the dash apart i found that the reason i could see hardly anything on the dash display at night is that most of the bulbs are blown.
Surprise, surprise.
Also the bulb holder part on the back of the fuel guage has basically been melted to the point that it had broken away leaving a just as melted green glass part inside the speedo. Guess i need another one of them also.

God knows what i'll find tomorrow but i am looking towards why it is that there is no coil light showing up on dash for heating the diesel plugs. Surely this should and it would be the choke symbol.

Any pointers on that ^^^ or anything else would be much appreciated.
